It was a weekend of mild weather. Today was the kind of day where it was a sin not to go outside, the only question was what to do outside. Allison had sat in the great hall that morning thinking long and hard and finally, she had made up her mind. Now on the way to the quidditch pitch she let the weak sun warm her face. Once she arrived, she climbed into the high stands and found a nice seat where she spread her equipment.
Allison looked to the pitch and as expected, a few lonely players were taking advantage of the weather to work on their technique. They flew in a graceful manner, diving and turning, accelerating to great speeds and stopping on a dime.
Allison looked down now. She set her blank canvas before her, picked up a brush and dipped it in the gold paint. She would start with the hoops. She took long, even strokes, capturing this peaceful day in each blotch of color. Allison felt a great weight lifted off her shoulders. How long had it been? two, maybe three years now since she picked up a paint brush? Not since Warren, she hadn't painted a single picture since Warren.

Regis walked out of the castle. It was a beautiful day. Today he would bathe in the sun and stare at the sky; today he would relax and let all his worries and troubles float away like the many people playing quidditch. It was looking to be one of the better days this month. He glided listfully across the grass, taking in every moment.
Then, he saw her. It was Allison, and from what he had remembered their last encounter had ended poorly. They had been avoiding each other, not talking, not interacting. Regis knew that he had done wrong and that he should apologize, but he was not quite ready to give up. She was painting, and from the look of it she was skilled. So, instead of looking up at the sky or talking to Allison he sat down and watched her, hoping to look upward if she glanced.
After all, in Regis's mind he wasn't staring, he was observing. Surely she would understand if she caught him watching her. He hoped.

Allison had now dipped her brush in the white and started painting the flecks of sunlight gleaming on the yellow. Soon though she had to look up. Deciding that the stands were the next best place to start. She looked around at the stands across the field then made her way around to studying the very ones she was in. She jumped slightly as she noticed a figure, upon further inspection she noticed it was Regis. She hadn't quite made it clear that she had seen him and wanted to keep it that way. She started painting the stands then and as she did, she made sure to include the gryffindor boy gazing from the stands into the sky.

"That was close," Regis thought. Or was it? Had she seen him? It was hard to tell. He hoped he had jerked up his head in time. Now Regis was facing a moral dilemma of sorts. If she had seen him staring and he would not go over to apologize, then he would be rude. If she had not, then he was just being lazy. Regis was new to apologies, he had rarely given one. In fact, he wasn't quite sure what he was apologizing for. He hated apologies. It was clear that Allison disliked him, but he didn't know about how to make up to people, either. He was not experienced in that area.
But he felt the need. He was interested in her painting, he was slightly upset about losing a friend, but for now he sat. He watched as brooms soared through the sky. He wished that he had the dexterity to do so.
He stood up, unsure of what to do next. He approached Allison, and then hesitated. He then proceeded to walk up beside her.

Allison was aware that Regis had now walked up beside her. Without looking up she continued working until she was ready to put the details on the face. She paused then, cleaning her brushes. She then looked up at him and said "Hello. I am terribly sorry for the other day in the great hall, I hadnt realized we were to have the class together. Otherwise I would have asked you to join me on my way there." As suddenly as she had looked up she was back to painting, adding on the slight curve of his mouth and the shape of his nose. Finally she added the eyes and moved on to bathing his face in a golden glow from the sun.

He had walked up. He cleared his throat, preparing to speak. But she spoke first, and apologized to him. He was taken aback, he hadn't expected things to go this way. However, he felt like he had to apologize in return. "I'm sorry..." he said quickly. He looked up at the sky, at a loss. "For being insensitive. And things along those lines. I really should have thought before I talked."
He changed the subject. "That painting is good! Are you done? It looks beautiful. I can do something like that!"
He got out a piece of parchment from his robes and a quill, dipped it in ink, while splattering some on his clothes, and drew a stick figure on a broom. He showed it to her and laughed, so she'd know it was a joke. He wanted to make things right, and maybe humor would help.

Allison wasn't quite sure what Regis was apologizing for but let it go. He asked if the painting was done and she looked back down. There was no grass, nor sky, nor players. "No," she said "Not unless the sky has gone white, the grass has died and there is no sun nor players." She smiled to let him know she was joking. He then pulled out parchment and drew a stick figure. She laughed along as she returned to her work. "So what brings you out here?" she asked as she started on the slytherin quidditch player whom was now taking some pretty steep dives.

She made a joke and laughed at his. They were back on speaking terms, then. This was good, considering he hadn't had the chance to be her friend yet. She had asked him a question, and he had hesitated. "I'm out here to enjoy the day, to lose my worries. To forget. If I'm in that castle for another minute I'll scream." He paused, thinking to himself for a second, watching her paint. "Why are you painting here? Why not... like the lake or something?"
Regis hoped his question wasn't offensive.

Regis pondered this cryptic message for quite some time. How should he respond? The meaning of the message in itself was also unclear: did she want him to leave, or pursue conversation?
He opened his mouth to say soemthing equally cryptic but a squeak came out instead. He cursed the opening stages of his adolescence and coughed to cover up the squeak, hoping that Allison did not notice.
"Erm... some days you just can't get inspired... I know that feeling!" He said with a smile.
He hoped she would continue talking to him, because he also needed inspiration.

Allison heard a squeak, and turned to see a mortified Regis. She turned back to her painting as he restarted. She took long even strokes as she painted the broom of a ravenclaw girl hovering near the base of one of the hoops. "I like quidditch." she said, not answering his statement directly. "It's very gracful, almost like dancing in the air. Hey, do you by chance know the spell to make these move?" she asked as she pointed toward her players that she had painted thus far. Allison painted a Gryffindor and a Hufflepuff flying as well before starting on the short even strokes of the grass.

To Regis's dismay, it appeared that Allison had heard his fatal error of speech, and so he turned bright red out of embarrasment. To make matters worse, Allison had put him on the spot by asking him a question of which he was not able to answer. "Do you know the spells to make these move?" she had asked. He fumbled over his words, trying to think of a witty answer but then settling for a simple, "nope. No clue." However he continued on. "It looks really good though! And... hey! That figure looks like me!" Regis beamed at the resemblance. He lifted up his chin and admired the portrait of himself that Allison had painted. "Is my chin really that long?" He asked.

"Oh look! You match your robes!" Allison laughed as she teased egis about the bright shade of red his face was turning "Im only joking. And I guess I can ask a professor later. Yes that is you! And yes you look like that!" Allison stuck out her tongue. "Actually," she said as she put the finishing touches on her portrait "I think I'm done!" Allison admired her work for a moment. She had managed to capture and represent each of the houses, and the players were practicing, not competeing showing house unity as they mingled. Allison smiled. She would send this home to Father once she got it moving.

Now Regis knew that he wouldn't be able to return to his normal shade of white because he always stayed red when someone drew attention to the fact that he was flushed. However he laughed because he realized that Allison truly meant it when she told him she was joking. "I look rather dashing," Regis quipped, forming a mock pose that a marble statue might form, in order to continue the joke. He stood back up and gazed with awe at Allison's work. "But in all seriousness, that's quite good! Not quite as good as mine, though." He held up his terrible art for her to see. "What will you paint next?"

Allison was not done with her painting and needed to get it inside before it was smudged or ruined by the sun. "I'm not quite sure. I need to get back inside...do you want to walk me to my common room?" she asked hoping he would say yes. She hoped she wasn't seeming rude and perhaps this invitation would make up for that, she also enjoyed spending time with Regis and hated to see their fun end.
