It had been a long day for Aris. His eyes were growing heavy, as his stomach ached for something to digest. Without a second thought, he quickly made his way throughout the corridors and into the kitchen.

Nice. A smile spread across his face at the thought of all the food. I'm going to need alot.. He looked around the room observing the many counters and cabinets around him. As he spotted a nearby bowl of fruit, Aris made his way to the counter to pick the first item of his feast. Banana? No..hmm.. Orange? Yeah I think I'll have one of them. As he slowly contemplated in his mind, he had finally chosen to eat an orange. He loved oranges, they always set his mind back at home. As curiousity overcame his mind, he quickly began to rummage through the many cabinets in the kitchen. He was determined to find food. Perfect. As he managed to find some peanut butter and bread, it had seemed like Christmas to Aris. He was happy as ever as he began making his peanut butter sandwich.

Moments had gone by until the boy had finished his sandwich and taken a seat. It was a quiet night tonight. The quiet provided much time for thoughts, but who wanted to sit around thinking all night? As he shook his head, Aris had paused for a moment before pulling a piece of parchment and a quill from his robes. He was going to write a letter home.

Father,
I'm all settled in at school. It's nothing like I thought it would be. I myself am surprised at how much I enjoy it here. It's everything mum said it would be.

As the thoughts of his mother filled his mind, Aris released a thick sigh as he sat there in silence. "Stupid." He quickly reached for the parchment as he crumbled it in his hand. "I've got nothing good to tell him anyway." Slowly, the boy had leaned his head against the hard marble counter. He needed a moment to rest. A moment to absorb his racing thoughts.

Allison had gotten up the nerve to finally read her letter from Aunt Ethel...but not without a snack. Allison skipped down to the kitchen, in search of an apple or some watermelon. As Allison entered the room, she noticed a boy at a table crumpling up parchment. I guess I'm not the only one who has trouble writing home... Allison thought. Allison grabbed and apple from the bowl nearest to the door and silently as ever walked over and sat down across from the boy. Allison started eating her apple as if it were perfectly normal to be here with him. She glanced up for a second, then quickly looked away. He's an attractive boy if I ever saw one. Allison thought. Wavey blond hair, green eyes. Wow... he was.. Allison smiled, hopeing she wasn't scaring him off.

The silence in the room had broken as another student had entered. The kitchen had now felt tense to Aris, as he was embarrassed to be seen in such a condition. Thank God I'm not a cry baby.. He snickered quietly to himself at the thought of sitting there all teared up. A few seconds had passed before his fellow student had taken a seat.

Slowly, Aris looked up to observe the stranger in front of him. His curiosity had now taken over his thoughts. Oh a girl. Looks like a hufflepuff. I suppose it can't hurt to talk to her, right? He shook his head for a moment before attempting to make eye contact with her.

"Oranges are better for you, you know. Their my favorite."
He smiled sweetly at her. Interested in carrying on a conversation.

"I'm Aris. Nice to meet you."

He contemplated offering his hand to shake, before trashing the idea in his head. A handshake? She's a girl. They don't give handshakes. I think. For a few moments as he sat there, his mind had felt free. He had felt relieved she had entered the kitchens.

"Oranges are too messy... Plus, there is no crunch." Allison said. She thought a moment, should she reveal who she was? Her First name obviously...but would he judge her? Would he stare at her scars once he realized who she was? "I'm Allison" she said, deciding first name only was fine for now. That's odd...no handshake. oh well.

"So, who were you deciding not to write to?" She asked gently, not sure if the subject was touchy.

"My father."

Aris sat there quietly as he thought about his family back home. They all seemed so happy all the time, yet how could they move on so easily?
"I was about two sentences in before I got frustrated and gave up. Writing home isn't exactly my best skill."

His words drifted off as he studied the girl sitting in front of him. She was friendly and kind; he enjoyed her company. She distracted him. It was just what he needed.

Usually Allison would back off at this point, but today she felt the need to ask anyways. "Frustrated? Why? It seems that you would be itching to write home. You're a first year are you not? Do you not miss him?" When had Allison become so bold? First she just sat down with someone she didn't know and now this? Why not be even bolder? Allison thought. She pushed back her hair that she normally used to hide her scars and held her head up high with a confidence that was unknown to her. She felt comfortable around him. He didn't know who she was, or if he did he didn't show it. She guessed he didn't since most people have an immediant reaction. Allison could act like she was a normal student. No powerful name, no dark past, nothing. Just a normal Hufflepuff first year girl who liked school and liked to talk. Hmm...that sounds nice. Normal. I feel normal around him.

His lips pressed tightly together as he searched for a way to answer her question. He had missed his father, and his brothers. Yet words were hard to find to describe everything else he had felt.

"Yes,I miss him. Of course I do. I suppose I miss my brothers more though. Father doesn't spend much time at home, so it's hard to write him letters. I feel like I barely know him."

Aris shifted in his seat as he had realized he may have said too much. It was like him to be honest, yet not to willing admit to strangers about his lifestyle. What are you doing? You're going to scare her away.. His thoughts fought back and forth as he scrambled to find something else to say to the girl. She had been sitting there kindly speaking to him. He had almost felt as if he'd known her.

Carefully, Aris observed Allison. He took a quick glance at her scars and smiled. He envied her; not because she had scars, but because he had liked the fact she seemed comfortable with herself. She wasn't afraid to speak to him, even though she had an appearance different than most others.

"I know what you mean..." Allison said, then realizing he might not understand she added "About barely knowing your father, i mean. I know how that feels. My father is rarely home, either. It's just me and mum, though, even then it still feels like it's only me. At least you have your brothers. It must be terrible not getting to see them this Christmas. I can't say I'm too disappointed in the news myself, at least now my Mum doesn't have to tell me they don't want me." Realizing that not only she had been babbleing on but also she had revealed the fact that her parents were upset with her Allison blushed. He must think I'm ridiculous... she thought.

"Family sucks, huh?"

Aris attempted a half smile as he spoke to Allison. He understood how she felt. He was almost in the same position.

"My father works at the ministry. And I could swear to it that he takes up as many hours as possible. He leaves my brothers and I with a muggle nanny everyday. We have to pretend like we're normal.."

As his sentence had trailed off, he sat in silence for a moment as he thought of being back home. A typical day in the Oake household consisted of lies. One after another.

"It's like we have to forget all about our world to pretend we're someone we're not. I hate it. Ever since mum died, it's like we've got two sides to us. Things seemed easier when she was here. I feel unwanted now, like father couldn't wait until I went to school. I miss my brothers terribly, I wish I could be with them this Christmas.. Father said it was best if I stayed at school, it would look suspicious to the nanny if I came home.."

He shook his head as his words had finally come to a stop. He was slightly embarrassed to ramble on to someone he hadn't known. He had basically told the bad about his family, and none of the good.

"Sorry, I get worked up about it sometimes."

He balled his fist on the counter as he sat there quietly. He hadn't known what to say now. He had felt as if he was making the conversation more serious than it should have been.

"A muggle?" Allison asked, she couldn't help but wonder what they were like. She had never actually seen one. "What are they like?" Despite this boys obvious sadness, Allison wanted to know about them. She grew up only around wizards, pure bloods for the most part. Her parents wouldn't let her speak to a half blood, much less a muggle born. In her parents eyes, muggles were worth less than dirt. She remembered going to Diagon Alley as a child. They always went by flew powder. One day Allison had asked why.

"So we wont see any muggles of course!" Her mum had laughed."They can not really be that bad can they?" Allison had asked. Her mum backhanded her, suddenly serious. "Muggles are worthless dirty scum. Never forget that." And Allison didn't ever forget that, but instead of takeing that view as her own she had remembered to be sensetive when the topic came up. Allison still didn't see why muggles were so bad...

Allison scolded herself for asking, "Never mind that, Allison gave the boy a half smile and continued, "My father could not wait until I was off either. Mum was thrilled when i left. She said never said good bye actually... My parents have been rather unloving since War- my brother died." That was close. The name of her brother along with her scars would be too much. If he found out who she was, this perfect peace of normality would shatter.

Aris had been shocked when the girl asked about muggles. Of course, it was very likely to run into wizards that didn't care for them, yet was a shock to Aris that she hadn't known about them.

They boy chuckled as he watched Allison change her mind so rapidly.

"You change your mind pretty fast."

A large smile ran across his face as he directed his eyes away from her. He knew she had wanted to know about muggles, yet something had to of been stopping her.

"They're almost like us. Without the magic, and the spells. They read, and cook and go to school. They play board games, and garden, and they sing." He paused for a moment before finishing, "The muggle world is so large. It's got governments, Kings, Queens.. It's got everything."

He shrugged his shoulders as he had ended his description. It wasn't exactly the best explanation of muggles, but they were people.. How else could he describe them?

..."Mum was thrilled when i left. She said never said good bye actually... My parents have been rather unloving since War- my brother died." Aris sat there as his mind went blank with sorrow. He had known what it was like to lose someone close; How badly it affected the family. As he had lowered his eyes to the table, he gulped quietly as the thoughts of losing his mother came back into his mind.

"Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I know it's hard when you lose someone."

He gave a warm smile as he bit his lip gently. She hadn't wanted to tell him her brothers name; He wasn't going to ask either. Death was a hard conversation for some, he didn't want to make it any harder.

"Just like us? Except...without magic?" Allison tried as hard as she could to comprehend this. Who would she be with out magic? She grew up with magic from an early age. Never did Allison have responsibilities because the house elves took care of those. Even before the accident, Allison rarely mingled. She had loads of time on her hands and put it into painting, but even then magic was used. Allison was glad though that he had answered her question anyways. He didn't seem offended by it and Allison took that as a good sign.

"Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I know it's hard when you lose someone."

Allison took in the warm smile he offered then took a closer look. He bit his lip lightly, and there was grief in his eyes. He had the look of a person whom had suffered great tragidy. Should she ask further? No...she wouldn't want him asking about Warren less he was oblivious to the situation. She got up from the table and rummaged through a cubbord. Ah, there it was. Allison sat back down with the chocolate and brok off a piece for each of them.

"How is life treating you?" she asked trying to shy away from sensitive topics

"How is life treating you?
Aris chuckled at the girls question. It happened to be one of the questions he was able to answer easily. He leaned forward in his seat as he rested his elbows on the counter. "Well, I suppose life is treating me well. I'm here at Hogwarts, I'm making a friend, and I just ate one of my favorite snacks." He smiled as he looked at her, yet again observing her appearance. "And for you? Life treating you well?" He had hated asking anyone how their life was treating them. Life in general had to be good, right? He couldn't dwell on the hardships, and not on the good. Yet what about her? She had looked innocent to Aris. She had looked calm and quiet. Yet something about her had given him a vibe. She was possibly as much as a trouble maker as he had been. Everyone had secrets, and he was awaiting the day he would hear hers.

OOC: Sorry this took me so long to reply to! I hadn't realized you had ever responded haha

A grin slipped over Allisons face. Not one of her closed liped fake smiles designed to give the appearence that all was well, and not one of the rare smiles that showed her perfectly rectangular teeth either. This grin had a hint of darkness behind it, it was the kind of grin you see of a mischievous child before you realize the chocolate has a bite missing. "Life is well." She said, trying to keep a straight face, as if she had thought something funny or a rather bad idea that was likely to get her into trouble. Though neither of those things would be unusual for her, at this moment the only thing she could wrap her head around was that he had said she was his friend. "I had an amazing holiday, A new scarf, and a new friend. Yes, life is treaating me rather well I would think." Allison's hair came free from it's place behind her ear and swung forward, covering her face. Where as she would usually leave it in her face, Allison felt the need to be honest with this boy. A surge of boldness had Allison exposing her scars, fearing not what the boy's opinion was. So what if he thought it marked her as ugly, or if he wondered about how they came to be? She had never before felt so confident, what had gotten in to her?
