Allison's eyes flashed up from her food for only an instant. All she saw was yellow. Yellow scarves, yellow lined robes, yellow yellow yellow! It was everywhere. Had i mentioned there was alot of yellow? Shakeing in her shoes, Allison pushed her food around her plate. Hufflepuff isn't the best house to be in when you are scared of the color yellow. Trying to take her mind off of the color that was closeing in, Allison focused on her food. It did no good. Allison couldn't taste the food, from her first night at Hogwarts when she found out that she was a discrace to her family by being in Hufflepuff she couldn't eat. When she did her food was tasteless. She had heard so many people complement the food--not directly to her of course for she had no friends yet-- yet here she was sitting alone having to  force herself to eat it. Maybe she had small pox!? Was loss of appetite a symptom? She would have to look into that, though she knew what the real problem was. Hogwarts isn't supposed to be like this, She thought here, I was supposed to finally have friends...

For once, Sylverster wasn't smiling, and her friends went quiet when they caught sight of the frown on her face. Phyrrus wasn't anywhere to be found, and that worried the Ravenclaw to no end. She was supposed to get a letter from her parents as a reply to her report on the first few days in school, and yet her beloved pet was nowhere to be found. Sighing, she used her fork to poke at her poached egg, feeling down. "Perhaps Lord Kelestral and Lady Kelestral would be sending their reply late?"[/B] her housemate, Karen, suggested. Not wanting them to worry so much, she nodded, her expression still glum. Phyrrus would never stay away for so long, and yet there he was, missing in action.

The poached egg on her plate was taunting her, and Sylverster gave a low moan when eyes and mouth started appearing on it. The face was mocking her, she thought to herself angrily, jabbing the food with menace. After a few minutes, she finally gave up being so ridiculous, ending the battle by consuming the insulting piece of egg.

It was then that she heard a high-pitched scream, one that was very much familiar. Turning around with excitement, her eyes found the startling white eagle flying towards the Ravenclaw table. But before Phyrrus was able to reach his destination, he suddenly turned and landed on the Hufflepuff table. Sylverster cocked her head to one side in confusion before realizing that her pet must be tired. Phyrrus has been weak for the past two weeks and the long journey must have tired him.

Stepping away from her table, giving her friends a brief smile, she excused herself and went towards the Hufflepuff table, where the eagle was happily drinking from a Hufflepuff girl's cup. From the look of it, she was a first-year and seemed to be lost in her own thoughts, looking glum and sad. There were empty spots on both sides of her, and Sylverster quietly took a seat on her left, keeping a close eye on Phyrrus, not wanting him to fall ill. "Seems like he likes to drink from your cup," she muttered, smiling at the girl, wondering why she wasn't talking to anyone else from her house.

In the midst of Allison's contemplation, a white eagle landed on the Hufflepuff table and started drinking from her goblet. ooookayyy....whos is this? she thought. Knowing that eventually the owner would come for their bird, she sat there still attempting to eat. When a Ravenclaw girl came over for her eagle, Allison was suprised that she spoke to her.

"I wasn't drinking it anyways. Lovely eagle you have, though." Allison looked closely at the girl. She had long ebony hair, misty gray eyes, much like Allison's, and pale skin. Surely she's a pureblood,Allison thought thinking back to what her parents told her But if what they said is true...I haven't met a single halfblood yet! That can't be true... they always told me "Hogwarts was overrun by halfbloods and worse, mudbloods" how curious...
Allison gave the girl a small smile when she realized she was the first person to talk to her so far! "Are you a pureblood? It's not that I'm against halfbloods, no that's my parents, I'm just wondering. You don't have to say! Sorry!"Allison babbled on how she does when shes nervous. She was definatley nervous, if she played her cards right she might have a friend.

Sylverster gave a frown when she saw the look of surprise that flashed on the girl's face when she spoke to her. An idea sparked in her and the realization of it displeased her. In Hogwarts, she felt that everyone should not discriminate just based on blood or house, and she would do her own little part to change it. Unlike a few of her close friends, she had the support from her parents, despite them being from one of the most ancient house of Britain. "I wasn't drinking it anyways. Lovely eagle you have, though." Giving her a smile, Sylverster reached out a hand to caress Phyrrus' smooth white feathers, making a note in mind to bring him more treats later.

"Are you a pureblood? It's not that I'm against halfbloods, no that's my parents, I'm just wondering. You don't have to say! Sorry!" The abrupt question took her by surprise, and she stared at the girl for a while, curious as to why the question was raised, and why the girl was so flustered by it. Shaking her head lightly, she placed one of her hands on the Hufflepuff's comfortingly, "I am from the house of Kelestral, surely you've heard of it? I can give you my official title, but for now, I'm simply Sylverster Lynne," she said, tilting her head gently to one side. She wasn't sure if this girl has heard of her title, but most people would know her family name.

The title was one meant for intimidation when facing opposing families, but in such cases of befriending a pretty girl, it was perfectly unnecessary. "Don't worry, I'm not offended by that at all, and I'm glad to say that I agree with you," she replied, giving her a soft pat on the hand.

Allison gasped. Had she heard of the name Kelestral? Of course she had! As a child her father had drilled her on the highest names in Britain! Allison thought back to those summers when her father made a trip to Diagon Ally and would bring along Allison to teach her of the world. When ever her father pointed out a specific person they were always of a powerful family. She remembered the shock on her father's face when he pointed out Sinclair Kelestral. He had been suprised to see him then as was Allison as she looked into the face of his daughter. Being of a well known family herself, Allison extended her hand. "I am Allison Cassidy Rose," She said smoothly, hopeing to make a good impression. Blood and titles didn't really matter to Allison, but if she wrote to her parents with news of knowing a Kelestral maybe they could put aside the fact that she was in Hufflepuff! Sylverster seemed nice too and Allison hoped she thought the same of her. Allison was suddenly aware of the burn scars on her arms and face. Would Sylverster have heard the story? Surely she had heard talk, and now knowing her name now, she would make the connection. It had been all over The Daily Prophet. A feeling of guilt washed over Allison as she remembered telling the other kids that it had been the house elves who started the fire when she was younger. She hated that her father made her blame them. They had been so good to her... Hesitantly, Allison looked up to see the girls reaction.

The girl let out a gasp at Sylverster's introduction, and the older girl smirked. This meant that the Hufflepuff was either a half-blood, or a pureblood. She took a guess at the latter, and it was quickly confirmed a moment later. "I am Allison Cassidy Rose," the girl said and Sylverster took in her last name. She briefly remembered the family from her conversations with her father, and she gathered that the Rose family would most likely be one of those houses that discriminate against muggles. Hiding her displeasure, she turned her attention back to Allison. "That is a very nice name," she offered, smiling, "And I've heard of your family, it is not as private as mine."

From what her father told her before, Allison has a younger brother who has died in a fire. The newspaper made it clear that the fire was caused by house elves, but her family was not fooled. House elves are bonded to the families they serve so strongly, they would never be able to commit a crime that would endanger the family in anyway. That incident was so well-known in the society at that time, almost every single person in Europe knew about it. It was the first time that house elves were prosecuted for murdering its young master. Though her thoughts were at that unpleasant topic, she decided not to mention it, aware that such a memory, no matter what the cause is, would never be a nice one.

"So, are you enjoying yourself in Hogwarts so far?" she asked, still strong Phyrrus, a soft smile on her face.

Allison thought several things at once. Would she believe me? After all, I am a Hufflepuff and the Rose family is known to be purely Slytherin as well as Maybe Mum and Father would be fine if I told her the truth about Warren...another day perhaps and finally She's probably thinking that I am like my parents! How can I tell her I am just as fond as half bloods and muggleborns as I am purebloods? As these thoughts spiraled through her head she also managed to get some sort of an answer out that calmed at least two of her worries. "Oh! It is lovely so far! Despite my parents opinion of me being in Hufflepuff, I am having a splendid time in my classes. I enjoy being around so many people. The only time I have ever been near many at all is when I would sneak out to play with the half bloods that my parents didn't approve to play with me. Though I do miss Mum and Father, I think I am going to like Hogwarts just fine." Allison sat there with her trademark smile on her face as said this all in a rush. After she thought, Was the wording too awkward? Will she think I am strange and leave? She must have friends missing her...

For a while, Allison remained silent and Sylverster could tell that she was deep in thought. Being a thinker, she would often be lost in her own thoughts and her friends have gotten used to such a behavior from her. Tapping on the wooden table surface softly, she settled for observing Allison's facial features, taking in the burn scars that slightly marred the pretty face of the girl. She let her eyes sweep past those scars, not wanting to be rude by staring at them. "Oh! It is lovely so far! Despite my parents opinion of me being in Hufflepuff, I am having a splendid time in my classes. I enjoy being around so many people. The only time I have ever been near many at all is when I would sneak out to play with the half bloods that my parents didn't approve to play with me. Though I do miss Mum and Father, I think I am going to like Hogwarts just fine." Sylverster looked up into Allison's eyes when the girl's voice registered, and she listened to the enthusiastic words that didn't seem quite right.

If the girl was enjoying her time here, then why was she so miserable just a while ago? Sylverster kept her question to herself, settling for a comforting smile for the friendly Hufflepuff that she's taken a liking of, "Unlike general belief, I think that getting sorted into Hufflepuff is a thing that one should be proud of. It shows that you are fiercely and faithfully loyal, and one can always trust you to support and stay with them till the very end. They ought to be proud of you, but instead of trying to tell them otherwise, perhaps show them what you're worth through your actions." she replied, her eyes bright as she offered those hopefully-helpful words. "How are your housemates and friends so far?" she asked again, her voice kind and curious. When she first arrived, she was surprised to find that she could interact with most of her year mates with ease, and it was then that she made her first few friends, the ones whom she would cherish for the rest of her life...

Allison's eyes lit up as she listened to what Sylverster had to say. She had a very good point, being in Hufflepuff was something to be proud of. Allison's smile turned genuine as she listened on...then faltered at her question. How can I answer a question about my housemates and friends when I don't have any? Allison thought. Deciding it was besst to be truthful, Allison folded her hands in her lap and looked at the scars that decorated them in the beautiful way that scars do. "I have not had a good chat with any of my house mates yet. I am sure they are all remarkable people, though. As for friends...I have not had the pleasure of makeing any yet." Allison felt she could trust this Sylverster girl, which was strange since they just met. Allison wasn't known for being very trusting so she took this as a good sign and continued. "I fear that I am timid when it comes to interaction with other wizards. I have been quite sheltered since my brother's death and I...I am scared of learning magic. Things have been wild since I started school and I am afraid makeing friends has not been at the top of my to do list." Allison tried to keep the guilt off of her face as she spoke of Warren's death, but she doubted that she succeded. Grief was expected of her, but guilt was not an emotion one would expect to see on the face of the innocent. She doubted the girl hadn't figured it out- she was a Ravenclaw after all- and if she hadn't she probably made the connection then. Allison waited, guessing that the girl would be disgusted and walk away. Allison hadn't done a good job of makeing a first impression and this girl no doubt had friends she would want to go see. She was probably just being polite by keeping up the conversation....

The satisfaction that Sylverster felt when she saw Allison's eyes light up was tremendous, it was a moment of happiness and it was then she knew that she had involuntarily taken the girl under her care. She knew how it felt like to have your parents supporting you no matter what you do, and she knew how lucky she was to have such understanding and accepting parents who love her till the very end, hence she felt sad for Allison, for it was clear that it was not the same for her. She didn't feel pity towards the girl, for she felt that it was not what she deserves. The girl deserves to see beyond the restraints that bound her so, and explore the beauties and happiness that life has to offer. Something fluttered within Sylverster, and that unknown feeling made her want to get to know this endearing Hufflepuff more, to guide her and to accompany her through the ups and downs of life. You're getting ahead of yourself, Sylverster thought to herself, a soft smile tugging the end of her lips up. She saw that her words had the same effect on the girl in question, and she was determined to see the genuinely sweet smiles more.

When Allison shifted slightly to fold her hands on her lap, Sylverster couldn't help but look down, only to find more scars on her arms. Her face kept neutral, she hid the inner grimace that caught her when she thought about the pain that would lead to such results. It happened when the girl was young, and she wondered if those scars, along with the inner ones, have healed, or if they ever would. "I have not had a good chat with any of my house mates yet. I am sure they are all remarkable people, though. As for friends...I have not had the pleasure of makeing any yet." Sylverster looked up once more when she heard Allison responding to her question, and she went through the words that formed the hesitant reply. Those words spoke more than their owner did, and Sylverster's mind was quick to work out what they actually meant. A frown marred her supposedly calm expression as she pondered over the other Hufflepuffs. Somehow, she couldn't believe that none of them would be willing to befriend this gentle and sweet girl in front of her. On the other hand, she felt that perhaps that Allison, in fear of rejection, one that is so similar from her parents, shy away for any attempts that should be made possible.

Sylverster decided that she would be the one to make the first breakthrough, she wanted to show Allison that Hogwarts would offer more than just a magical learning experience, the seven years that everyone would spend in this castle would present them with much more wonders, and a whole lot more love. She rid herself of her unpleasant frown and gave Allison a smile, "Fret not, I am sure you would making some very soon. But for now, you can count me in your list."

As different as their backgrounds were, Sylverster could understand the dilemma that Allison was in. When she was young, she feared making friends because she was different, and her parents even called her special. Even when she was five, she had earned her social status without doing anything other than being the heir of the house, and that terrified her, all those expectations and judgmental stares from the adults. Children tried to get close because their parents told them to, and she knew it. She resented public and official gatherings since then, and it surprised her that one short year in Hogwarts changed that about her. Sure, Sylverster was still more than aware of the treacheries and dangers of social politics, of the life that she's in, and the adulthood that she would be stepping into in a few years' time, but this time, she was confident that she would be capable of selecting the group that she would placed her ultimate trust on.

She wanted to show Allison that if she was able to step over the chains that restricted her, and the beautiful new sight that she was exposed to after conquering her fears and resentments, then the girl would be capable of doing so too. "I fear that I am timid when it comes to interaction with other wizards. I have been quite sheltered since my brother's death and I...I am scared of learning magic. Things have been wild since I started school and I am afraid makeing friends has not been at the top of my to do list." Allison's voice brought her out from her deep thoughts, and her mind was quick and eager to dissect the meanings behind the reply once again. From them, she understood that her deduction of how Allison felt was rather accurate, but the mention of her brother confirmed her theory. "The house elves weren't at fault, but you weren't, either. It was fate at her worst, she was the one who connected those seemingly insignificant things together and presenting you with the harshness of the world. If there's anything to go by, perhaps - perhaps he's at a better place now. He would be able to see the beauties of life from above, and he would be safe from the treacherous water that all of us have to step into very soon," she spoke, her words proving that her intellect was beyond her age, and it was her turn to fear that Allison would shy away just because of her intimidating words.

"Magic is all about control and intent," she offered, giving the girl a smile, wanting the Hufflepuff to know that she knew the truth behind the lies, and that she would never fault her for it. "One the intent is right, and you're in control, nothing would go wrong. I am sure that your intent was pure curiosity and your desire to seek knowledge, and those feelings of a kid were anything but wrong and malicious. It was the control that slipped away from your unpolished core, and nobody should fault you for that. For one, I know that I would never."

Allison stared into the flickering flames. Crawling up the walls around her and filling the air with dense smoke, Allison could barley hear Warren's cries. Were they growing softer? That would not be good, but then again, what is good about watching your house turn to ash and your brother burn? The flames crept closer, now. Barely reaching for her, as if they were testing the water before getting in a pool. The wall of intense heat and light was closing in and Allison backed into the corner even more, pressing against the walls willing for them to break and let her excape. Where were her parents? Why had Warren gone silent? The flames now licked at her arms and legs, leaveing a searing pain and the smell of burning flesh as they went. Finally, a scream started to rise in her chest. A little bubble of sound trying to make its way into the air above the roar of the fire. The flames had reached her face now and Allison realized she was screaming. Her lungs pumped, working hard to keep her going in the smokey room. Tears stung in Allison's eyes, wanting to come out, but she had no hydration to spare. Suddenly, Allison's parents were there, wands at the ready. Allison saw their mouths move as they said the spells to extinguish the fire...but both wands were pointed toward Allison. Allison wanted to warn them, to tell them to look to right aand see Warren and help im too! But the words wouldn't come out.

Allison's eyes refocused as she remembered her surroundings. She was in the great hall with Sylverster. She looked back up at the girl, seeing as looking at her scars would do no good. Her words gave Allison strength. Yes, she was Allison's first friend at Hogwarts and the first person to be able to put Warren's death into perspective. She's right, I didn't mean to start the fire. Warren is in a better place. I hope they have lots of books there, Warren liked books. Allison thought.

Allison smiled softley as she remembered Warren's love for knowledge. "He would be in Ravenclaw, you know. Warren, that is." wanting to change subject she continued, "Do you have any siblings?" Allison's question felt out of place. Sylverster had spoken beautifully with vocabulary and personification and a knowlegde beyond her years, and here was Allison, asking a casual question about family.

When Allison went into a trance-like state, Sylverster could only wait. There were times when she would be so caught up in her memories, those that were locked in her heart, that the surrounding world just disappears, leaving her alone to fight the horrors that she feared. It was the only way to conquer them, she realized that when she managed to defeat her fear of portraits. Our minds play tricks on us, and by winning them, we learn so much more about ourselves, and we are toughened up every time. Turning back to Phyrrus, she could tell that he was well-rested and with a pat, she sent him back to the Ravenclaw common room, knowing that he would find his way to her bed for some sleep. Smiling to herself, she reminded herself once again to let him recover before sending him off on errands.

Turning back to her newly made friend, she could see that Allison understood where she was coming from and imitated her smile. "He would be in Ravenclaw, you know. Warren, that is." Nodding, the Ravenclaw felt a twinge of regret that she wouldn't be able to meet the potential Ravenclaw, but she shook the feeling away, focusing on the present, not on the countless "what if"s in life. "I am sure that he is a Ravenclaw, even now, through and through." she murmured, giving Allison a wink.

When asked if she has any siblings, Sylverster nodded, her eyes lighting up at the mention of Sabrae. "He's my twin brother, younger by just four minutes. You can actually find him right there," she said, pointing to the Ravenclaw table, "Though he loves to keep by himself most of the time, he's actually very friendly once you get to know him better."

(I can't mention Sabrae so much, unless I create an account for him, but right now he's just an OC and NPC ;D)

Allison turned to look where Sylverster pointed out her twin brother. Allison had always wanted a twin and was momentarily caught up in imagining the close relationship the two must've had. Deciding that she two would find out a family secret or two Allison tilted her head slightly and asked "Why is it that your family keeps to yourselves? You have one of the biggest names in Britain, yet your family does not flaunt it like so many others." Despite asking out of curiosity, Allison respected Sylverster's family fot it.

Maybe it is to keep out of the social politics, Allison thought Father could learn a thing or two from them if that was the case. While the question Allison asked may seem like just gossip, she really just wanted to know more about this girl with words of wisdom years before her and an inspiring aura.

Regis looked upon the conversation between Sylverster and Allsion greedily.  The prospect of meeting new personalities, even from other Houses shuch as Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, excited him.  He shrugged off the nearest boy that was attempting to regale him with a less than amusing story about potions.  He walked over to the Hufflepuff table and sat down.  "You wouldn't, perchance," he said, "know where a certain ring of mine might be?"  He hoped they knew nothing of his lineage and would not mention the unlikeliness of a ring upon his hand; but the lie was out in the open and he would just have to chance it.  "Perhaps," he quipped to Allison, "You swallowed it."  He pointed to her goblet and laughed.

Allison eyed the Gryffindor. He seemed harmless for the most part, though it was quite odd that he was over at the Hufflepuff table. "Haven't seen it. Sorry." Allison said before turning away. Though she put on an air of rejection, she secretley hoped he wouldn't give up. She also felt a little bad for saying this and immediantly wished she could take it back. She was turning into her mother, treating this Gryffindor so poorly. Still, if she had learned anything from being a Rose it was that you had to have an angle in a conversation and once you found it you must stick with it...or maybe she had learned to be stuck up. Why was Allison so on edge with the arrival of this boy? Do boys even wear rings? Allison thought to herself as she pondered every word, every action, every aspect of this stranger.

The girl at the Hufflepuff table ignorned him.  "Ignored me!  Imagine that!" He thought.

Perhaps many would have walked off upon recieving the cold shoulder.  However, the charismatic Regis was not normally rejected from conversation, and was taken aback.  He was intruiged that this girl was so put off by his appearance at this table.  He was even more pressed to try and make friends.  He thought of a list of things he could say but none seemed quite appropriate.  "Perhaps I can find an excuse to talk!"  He thought to himself.

He repositioned himself to talk with Allison.  "This ring of mine, it's very important.  Do you want a description?  Maybe you can look out for it."

To Allison's delight, the boy pushed further for conversation. "Well, if it's really important." Allison said, "What does it look like? Also, why is it important if you don't mind my asking." Allison tucked her hair that had come loose and swung in her face behind her ear and leaned forward. She had to admit, she was intruiged. Allison, being the perseptive girl she was, guessed that the ring was merely a cover for a conversation. Nevertheless, she would hear what he had to say. Don't turn down an opportunity for friendship she scolded herself Only minutes ago you were here, alone, and would have paid this boy to talk to you! Not that a Rose should have to pay someone to befriend them... Allison was starting to realize that despite the way she always thought she was over the fact of being a pureblood of a powerful family, she really relied heavily on it. She always expected attention--however unwanted-- because of her name. Hogwarts was the cold water bringing her back to reality.

Allison made an inquiry about the ring.  Flustered, and taken by suprise, he answered, "It's uh... green, er... gold.  I need it for my..."  He was unable to finish his statement.  A pang of guilt and sadness wrecked through his body like poison.  He dropped his head to the table and sighed.

"I don't have a ring."  He admitted.  "I don't know why I said that.  I apologize."
Dearly hoping she'd accept his apology and hoping he hadn't ruined his chance to make another friend, Regis awaited tensley.

Allison started to smirk. She then realized this boy was not exactly in the mood to have her smirking at him. She gave him a soft half smile instead. "Hey," she said softley "It's fine. What's your name? I'm Allison. Allison Cassidy Rose actually." If he was of pureblood, maybe even a half blood, this familiar name could bring him comfort. Or fear she thought darkly Why does my name always strike fear?
