During Classes, Cerri couldn't stop thinking about her friends and showing them her new toy.  Well, it wasn't exactly a toy and the Professor's would tell her so if she happened to slip up and say something mindless about her flying carpet.  She had finally come to the conclusion that if she wanted them to meet up with her she was going to have to tell them herself, either by note or by a physical invitation.  Knowing that the Slytherin Common Room was in the Dungeon, she didn't exactly feel like fighting with the other more superficial and arrogant of the Greens.  So instead, she decided to send them both a note.

As the last class ended for the day, she raced upstairs to her own dorm room and left two notes on her own trunk.  SHe knew the House Elves would wonder by shortly when no one was around and deliver her invitations to both Alistair and Adrian as they were addressed.

Mssr. Alistair Bauldaugh

HufflePuff Dining Table

The Great Hall

&

Mssr. Adrian MacDermott

  Slytherin Dining Table

The Great Hall

"Dearest Alistair/Adrian,
After Diner Break please meet me outside along the quieter portions of the path to the Black Lake.  I have something I want to show you that you will not be able to believe.  It is so much more exciting than just a boring old broom.

Sincerely,
Cerri"

That was the wording of the letters she was having the House Elves deliver to her two best friends at the school.  Leaving the letters out for the Elves, she picked up her carpet...all rolled up.  No one would believe she was as calm as she was exiting the Common Room.  Inside she was all atwitter about being able to ride in the summer air.  And if her friends didn't make it out, it woould be their loss, she wanted them to ride the carpet with her for the most wildest ride ever.  Inspired from the cart ride into Adrian's vault, this was much better, although not nearly faster.  But the wind in the face was about the same.

Making her own way out of the room, Cerri found one of the open windows from the upper floors.  She had no desire to be seen on the First Floor or even the Ground Floor carrying her carpet.  She unrolled it so that it hung over the windows edge, dangling high above the grounds below.
"Ala KaZamm!"  She spoke the magic word that brought the carpet to life.  As soon as the word was said, the carpet wiggled, like it had caught a strong breeze.  Floating there without anything supporting it from underneath, she climbed herself onto the carpet and took a seat so she could grab the edges and steer it like she had on the trip here with Maddock.  Each step she took looked like she was stepping on silk, her shoes outline showing from the underside.  The carpet though, remained sturdy.  She looked out towards the lake and mountains and was ready.  One deep breath later and the magic word for go and she was gone, whooshing across the air on her own volition.

Alistair watched the wide end of his spoon as he caused it to swim round and round inside his nearly translucent soup. He swerved it around, dodging the noodles and bits of vegetables that were swirling inside. Clearly this poor boy had had no form of entertainment all day if he was finding some sort of amusement out of his dinner. Had he not been stretching to yawn, and thereby distracted from his food, Alistair might not have noticed this light tugging on the side of his cloak.

A message, for you, sir.” A small voice told him. Alistair looked down with a bit of confusion. He had seen a house elf before, and knew that they ran about the castle working, but he had never gotten a chance to speak to one.

Oh, well, thank you.” He told the small creature, somewhat absorbed by the large brown eyes that were staring up at him.

You’re very welcome, sir. Please enjoy your dinner.” With that, the small elf scuttled off toward the end of the table. Alistair was sad to see the little thing go, he had been the most exciting thing that Alistair had run in to all day. Yet the message was equally intriguing, so the brown haired boy carefully tore at the top of the envelope and read the message within. The contents excited the boy greatly, and quickly drank the rest of his soup down quickly, ignoring what was certainly a horrified glance from some one of the older women at the staff table, and headed out of the Great Hall as quickly as possible.

As soon as he was free of the front doors, Alistair’s first instinct was to take off running. But he slowed himself before getting too far. Cerri had mentioned something about fun and being better than a broom. Chances were good in Alistair’s mind that if she were showing him something, Adrian would be invited too. There was another thought which made him wonder if Adrian was already there or knew about whatever Cerri wanted to show him. All the same, he could wait, just a minute or two. If Adrian got the same message as Alistair, he certainly wouldn’t be far behind. He probably wouldn’t slurp his soup though. Alistair told himself. Adrian was a little obsessed with appearances.

Cerri had decided to skip dinner, not because the food was horrible, that was quite the opposite.  Cerri was way too excited about the carpet she was already flying.  If nothing interrupted her, she'd be able to spend hours just zooming about.  Now she was able to go anywhere she wanted and not limited to where he feet could take her or her balance on a broom.

Falling from one of the highest windows of the castle was a huge rush.  Now she knew exactly what it felt like to fall, not necessarily fly.  Falling put way too much tingle in the toes as her fingers gripped the fringe of the edge of the carpet.  Now that she fully felt her heart in her throat...or was that her stomach...she screamed out the word that controlled the carpet.  To her it felt like she was screaming into the next dimension, but in all truthfulness the wind damper the word ever so much that one would only really be able to hear it if they were the carpet.

Once the carpet leveled itself out, Cerri felt her momentum slow.  No longer was she falling at such a thing as full velocity, now she was soaring at the same height as the sparrows.  It was amazing.  Though her hair was still flapping in the wind, it wasn't standing on end.  She headed towards the Black Lake, though she didn't expect to see either of her invite guests just yet.  The both of them might never let go of a good meal if they were allowed the priveledge.  Instead, she found her way to actually go over the water.  The Ravenclaw had to wonder if the carpet could only fly...or if it was able to hover in one place.  Well it did sort of, levitate on its own when landing.  Maybe it'd do the same thing over water.  It was best to test this out over the shallows.  There was no way she was going to get dunked in the middle of the lake before meeting up with Alistair and Adrian.

It had been forever, or at least what felt like forever to the twelve year old. He had been standing with his arms crossed, staring intently at the front door as though Adrian would just pop out of the wood like a ghost. But the boy hadn’t come yet and Alistair was itching to go see what Cerri had been so excited to show them. Maybe he was already out there, or maybe she hadn’t invited him. His mind pushed back the thought that she might have already showed Adrian without him, he didn’t like that idea too much.

Finding the wait unbearable for the impatient youngster, Alistair took off down the path. He didn’t full out sprint like he would have on a normal run, but he couldn’t contain himself to walking. His feet rhythmically hit the dusty path as he jogged up a hill and then alone the closest part of the shore. He saw some bushes on the right and smiled at the memory that surfaced. He had once dived into those bushes to avoid detection by Cerri and Adrian. Of course, his spying skills had sharpened since then, when his wild imagination had turned their every action into a horrible nightmare.

Alistair passed the spot quickly and moved on to what he figured Cerri meant by the quieter part of the path. Most students like wadding in the shallow areas or sitting under the trees that were a little further back. If he turned ninety degrees to the right he would run strait off a ledge into the water. Alistair slowed to a walk, wondering where Cerri was and what she could possibly want to do while it was rather dark and cold outside. “Cerridwyn?” He called out, using her first name on accident. It was a habit he had and regularly forgot about. “Hello?

Cerri had thought entirely too long about the tricks she might be able to do on her new flying carpet.  Too long indeed, as she looked up from some of the wobbly practice she was getting in, she realized that she had spent nearly 20 minutes just playing.
"Twenty minutes!"  She exclaimed to herself although quite loudly.  No doubt the boys were already on their way and wondering why she wasn't meeting them.  What an insult that would be to her friends.

She was late.  With a tug of the carpet's fringes to get its attention, she and the magic flooring whisked about on a quick turn as if the devil himself had singed the very edges and this was the run away reaction.  Cerri flew speedily across the lake and back towards Hogwarts and the place she knew Alistair would think was quiet, like what her note had said.

Cerri's mind went wild with imagination.  Maybe Alistair and Adrian both were mad at her, maybe they never even decided to come...maybe the moorish wolves were all ready prowling.  The very thought helped her press on even quicker.  Had the carpet been a broom, someone might have mistaken her for a Seeker out practicing, although if they knew her, they would know Cerri wasn't fond of the broom.

There he was, just one of her invitees, but one none the less.  She could see Alistair in the distance along the path.  He seemed to just be standing there.  An instant thought came across her that because of her tardiness he was hurt and sad.  It about made her heart wrench into a crazy twisted knot somewhere along the range of her stomach.

With a shift, the carpet came flying to a stop, skidding across the invisible distance between it and the ground.  Dirt and dried leaves wizzed by as if she had almost ran over her friend on purpose in an effort to show off.  Surely it looked that way, although she was just in too much of a hurry.
"Alistair!"  She breathed in a quick breath or two finally get the word out of her mouth.  "You're still here.  I thought I was way late.  I over guessed the time and got lost in my thinking and I thought you had left and that would mean I'd have to explain a heartfelt appology to you and Adrian..........."  She paused to breathe during that longwinded runon sentence as she noted Alistair was alone.
"Where's Adrian?  He didn't come?"  The look of a puppy dog tossed out in the rain for no good reason just slipped right over the whole of her face.
"Or, I am too late."

A soft evening wind blew the curls of Alistair’s hair around his ears up a little, which tickled him a bit. He raked his fingers through the strands hoping to flatten them and keep them tucked safely behind the ears. He looked out onto the lake which had an elongated reflection of the moon spread out over several yards of the slightly rippled water. It wasn’t very dark out here even though the sun had gone down some while ago. The grounds were illuminated rather well thanks to the clear sky. Looking up, Alistair smiled, and then jumped at both the sound of his name and the sight he beheld.

The leaves and dust didn’t disturb him nearly so much as the fact that Cerri was floating on some sort of oriental rug. She was rushing through an apology, but he couldn’t help but stare for a few moments. It wasn’t until a look of sadness overtook her face that Alistair was able to respond. “No, no, you’re not too late, it’s fine.” Where was Adrian though? Clearly she had invited him. “Maybe he didn’t get your letter?” He offered hopefully. “Or perhaps he went to speak with a professor?” Alistair honestly couldn’t recall if he had seen Adrian at dinner, so he was really of no use to Cerri in this moment. The best thing to do was to take her mind off the other boy… In multiple senses.

So, Cerri… What are you riding?” Alistair had of course heard of flying carpets, which he figured this was but wasn’t about to say so in the event he was wrong, but he didn’t know that you could get one around here. “And how did you come by it?” The boy knew that her father made watches, he had never known a watch maker to need a flying carpet. Then again, there was never so much a need for one as just the joy of owning one and being able to ride something other than a broom was rather fun, or so he figured. “Would it hold me too?” Alistair knew magical things were both stronger or bigger than they looked, but they could also be rather temperamental.

Seeing only one of her friends delighted her, especially when he looked as excited as she did.  Atleast one of her invited friends showed up and that was good enough for Cerri.  It was a little daunting that the other had sumarily blown her off.  Maybe Adrian had a good reason.  If she didn't know where he was and Alistair didn't either, there was a distinct possibility that Adrian hadn't really told anyone about where he was and what he was doing.  He was one of those secretive Slytherins, afterall.

Alistair was clever enough to draw her attentions away from her thoughts and brought her back to where she had originally wanted to be...showing off.  The carpet she rode was hovering in air as she had stopped before her friend, Alistair.  His eyes said it all.  He was astonished she was on a carpet.
"You silly boy.  It's a flying carpet."  She answered his first question.  Surely he had see one before.
"My aunt bought it for me at the Scottish festival.  I think Toren's family has a great party every year.  We should go next year."  Cerri contiued speaking to answer Alistair's questions and to keep the conversation alive.
"Maddock and I flew here from Wales on this.  It is so much fun.  Of course there is room for you.  I bet it could hold an African Elephant.  Come on.  We'll go for a fly and check on George.  This could change our research significantly."

Oh how the world would change now that she had a new toy.  They could do anything, fly high, fly low, float over dangerous precipices...and most importantly...it wouldn't be a broom!

Torin’s family? Alistair recalled getting an invitation over the summer to attend the fair, but he and his father were going to visit someone that week and he couldn’t make it. The fact that Cerri wanted to go next year, presumably together, lifted the boy’s spirits tremendously, though they weren’t down to begin with. “I rather think we should,” He agreed, stepping closer to the rug. The intricate middle eastern pattern was woven with shiny threads that glimmered in the moonlight. It was rather fascinating.

There was a problem with the flying carpet at this point; Alistair hadn’t a clue how to get on it. Cerri seemed so at ease, sitting as she was, but there was no designated seat or handlebars or anything like that which helped to explain to the rider “you sit here”. As well, he felt rather awkward trying to sit down without making his legs go in different directions or otherwise embarrass him. Needless to say, the process of him clamoring on was a little longer than it should have been.

So do I just hold on to it, then?” Though it was much larger than a broom, a stick of wood had a very sturdy handle that you could grip and would move with. This carpet seemed as though it might tip them over and they would be hanging on to a few threads. Even now, only a couple feet off the ground, apprehension crept up into his stomach. But then Cerri told him that she and her brother had flown all the way from Wales, which was quite a distance and if the device had wanted to dump them off or was unstable, they would know of it by now.

“George…” The two of them had hardly been out to see their beloved experiment at all this year. It seemed to be flying by, no pun intended. “It might be hard to see him now, but let’s go have a look. We’ve never tried to observe him at night before.” In all likelihood, the lake monster was probably sleeping, but that certainly couldn’t deter two determined scientists. “The next time we come out, we shall have to remember to bring our field journal,” He told her, clinging to the edge of the carpet as they took off.

Watching Alistair tumble on was quite humerous to the Ravenclaw.  She had forgotten what it was like on the very first ride she took, since Cerri was so comfortable on it now.  She could just imagine how odd it must have felt stepping onto fabric with no support from underneath.  Each step he took must have sunk down and made him feel uneasy.  Cerri sat there trying not to giggle at Alistair's misfortune.  The skirt of her dress had settled compliantly over her legs.  If her dress had been patterned the same as the carpet, it would look as if Cerri was half girl and half flying carpet, some sort of hybrid species.

"Yes.  You just sit there and well okay hold the tasslels.  That might make things more comfortable."  She grinned.
"So...you ready?"  Cerri was set and ready to go.  Once Alistair looked calm enough Cerri said the word, treating the carpet like a horse and it moved.  Slowly at first until the trees limbs were no longer a concern.

Soon enough the carpet was being coersed upwards and faster.  The wind was flipping Cerri's hair violently.  She could only hope Alistair was enjoying himself and not scared out of his wits.  Now clear of the trees, they were over the lake and headed towards the mountains...although they were a long distance away.
"Fun, huh?"  Cerri screamed over the loud wind.

Riding on the magic carpet wasn’t so bad after a moment or so. It was realizing that it held more like a comfortable chair than a flimsy bit of fabric that gave Alistair the courage to loosen his vice grip on the poor thing. It seemed to go a little faster when he did that, so he didn’t let go any more. Cerri seemed quite at ease on the carpet and it made Alistair wonder just how often she rode it. “Why didn’t you tell me about this before?” He asked with a large grin on his face. Now that he wasn’t so afraid, he could agree that this was a lot of fun. It was rather unlike Cerri to keep such a secret from him and Adrian.

The wind up here whipped at Alistair’s hair and cloak much more than it had on the ground, but the thrill of the ride was certainly outweighing that one minor dilemma. It actually made him feel somewhat super human, with a cape or something. “Have you taken the carpet out much?” He asked, wondering if Cerri frequently took off into the woods or spent time hovering over the lake simply because she could. It didn’t seem very safe to him - up until now, it seemed like the only one to know she even had such a device was her brother.

Do the professors know you have this?” He asked, looking down at the run and tracing one of the diamond patterns he found there. He sounded much too much like his father in that moment, but it wouldn’t do for Cerri to simply show up missing one day. The only positive note in that instance would be that Hufflepuff would have a fighting chance at the house cup, which was a really bad reason for someone to go missing.

The two glided away from the castle for some time, Alistair looked up at the stars and thought about their recent Astronomy lesson. “Do you suppose this could reach the stars?” Alistair had always wanted to travel that high, but he had been warned by his father that you couldn’t do so on a broom. Perhaps the carpet was stronger.

Cerri grinned as her friend seemed to still hold onto his tight white knuckle grip of the carpets edge.  even loosening his grip showed the stress and tension.  He must have been scared.  Cerri felt a bit for him, trying to appear like she was laughing at his misfortune.
"So sit back and enjoy the ride.  I wanted to let you know, but class just kept taking up all my time.  But we're taking the ride now, right?"  She grinned.
"Hang on to your hat."  She said quickly before urging the carpet to zoom away.  And before they knew it, they were rushing with quick maneuvers, enough that most would be scared out of their wits.

"I haven't done much with it.  As a matter of fact, before I met you here I was testing if it would land on water.  I learned that it is still a carpet and still gets wet.  Come on.  Let's go see how close we can get to the water before we get it wet."  Her face was truly excited as her hair wiped about.  With each change of the wind the tail of her locks slapped her in the face turning her cheeks a bright pink.

"I'm not sure if any of the Professors know about the carpet.  No one's said anything, but surly someone saw me arrive on it, right?"  There was a moment where Cerri was really concerned about what Alistair had said.  Maybe the Professors would take it away if they really found out.  Maybe there was a rule about carpets that no one told her.  It bothered her to think her freedom might be removed, so she tried to put it out of her mind.  Alistair's next question helped.  It made her chuckle.
"Maybe...want to find out?""  Her grin widened with a huge flash of her eyes, wanting so much to take the carpet as far UP as possible.
"Maybe we could be the first wizards to see Mars up close."

Adrian had been wondering what had happened to his two friends he hadn't seen them in a couple days and was beginning to wonder if they had decided to make their trio a duo. With his head full of random thoughts he made his way out onto the grounds knowing that Alistair often enjoyed running during breaks. It was around the lake (The Huffles normal running spot) that he would look first.

He didnt have long to look before something out of the ordinary caught his eye. It was not the fact that there was a carpet zooming around the sky. Or even the fact that their were two people on it. What really made his jaw drop was the fact that it was his two best friends Alistair and Cerri who were both flying through the air.

It took him a second to recover and realize that his chin was resting on the floor. Closing his mouth he gave himself a once over before pulling his wand out of his cloak, looking around to make sure no one was watching and (once satisfied he was alone) shot a shower of red sparks into the air to signal his arrival.

Cerri’s optimism rivaled Alistair’s own, and he knew that was one of the many things that held them together as friends. Rather than say anything in response, he simply nodded and smiled. There were so many things to take in from this height, things he had never bothered to focus on while confined to the Quidditch pitch in flying class the previous year. “I haven’t got a hat,” he informed her smartly, though he held to the edges of the carpet with renewed tension when the upholstery picked up speed and his friend spoke of the water. “Do you imagine that is such a good…” but his words were wasted as they drove toward the surface of the water. Just as he thought they were going to plunge into the depths and potentially come face to face with their science project, Cerri pulled and they began gaining altitude.

This was more like it. “Do you suppose we’ll ever have to take Astronomy class again?” Alistair wondered, his head starting to feel a bit heavy. They climbed a bit more and it worsened. “Cerri…” He said hesitantly as little spots began appearing before his eyes. “Maybe we should stop.” Perhaps they had gone too fast, or perhaps the air was different this far up. Looking down, he saw the castle. Had he dared to let go of the carpet, he could have closed on eye, stuck out his thumb, and obscured the nearest tower from his view.

Perhaps we ought to go back. A space expedition might require a chaperone. I suppose Professor Llwellyn would want to attend.” Truthfully, the boy was a tad scared about being so far up. A fall from a broom was generally just painful. A fall from this height would certainly result in death. “I’m sure there’s plenty to explore closer to the ground.” He insisted, hoping she would agree - he didn’t know if the carpet would obey him over her even if he was the one being reasonable in the situation.

Cerri was set and ready to go as high as possible.  Maybe even to see the stars up close.  She urged the carpet on command to go high with a huge smile on her face, excited.  Though the weather was clear enough, it seemed the higher they went the more wind appeared.  Sure, sure they were moving too, but the wind was just outrageous.  Finally it got the the point where her hair was everywhere.  Instead of just whipping her in the face and cheeks, now it was becoming more of a hassle to even see.  How awkwards it wasto have one of her own locks of hair try and strangle her!  It must have been a warning.

Eventually she slowed the carpet in mid air and came to a slow stop.  As much as she enjoyed the ride, she didn't dare look down.  Just the idea that Alistair and the carpet and even herself was eye level with the mountains was enough to put one of those weird twinges through heer whole spine.  It was one thing to be moving at heights like these, but another all together to be stopped.  What was she thinking?  A small silent tremor fell over her right hand as she sat there for a miniscule moment.  She was scared to go any higher, now how would she get them both down without looking like an idiot or a scared little girl.  It wasn't that Alistair knew how to fly this thing.  Both of their lives hung in her hands and one of them was shivering in fear.

Finally, she heard Alistair say something about needing a chaperone and flying lower to the ground.  That made perfect sense to her.  A slow nod heeded acknowledgement before she realized she looked like she was scared.  Now she had to hide it all and keep Alistair from knowing that.  She turned her head to see Alistair and let free a small laugh.  It might have seemed that she was humored by his fear, but truthfully she found it funny he was thinking the exact same thing she was and neither one wanted to say it.
"Allright, We'll go lower."  Subconsciously, her hands gripped the rug a little tighter and sinched herself up tall and straight as she let the carpet lower, each minute coming closer to the ground.  It was no lie that a fall from her original stopping point would have ended their friendship...rather permanently.

As they came closer to the ground an explosion of red sparks lit up the air to the left.  Obviously it was someone trying to get their attention, but who?
"What was that?  Let's go see."  She looked to Alistair for assuredness.  It wasn't that she wasn't going to find out who shot off the red flares, it was just always nice to know where the other person stood.  Cerri took the carpet towards the spark's direction, but skimmed it across the Lake's edge once more.  A small ripple of water branched off from the carpet's air wake.  Standing on the banks of the rocky shore was a figure in school robes with his wand still in his hand.

There was an immense amount of relief that washed through Alistair when Cerri saw reason and decided to take them back down; as though a dam had been broken through and the sensation was rushing past in a race to calm him from his core to the extremities. Immediately he felt his heart begin to calm and breathing became a little easier – although still not as relaxed as he was used to. He had just begun to feel normal again when a spattering of red caught his attention off to the side and surprised him so much that he nearly fell over the edge. Thankfully, they were close to the water and the fall wouldn’t have been nearly as painful as mere moments ago.

Cerri wanted to investigate and Alistair couldn’t see any reason to argue. Either it was another student; which could be a good or bad thing depending on how old he or she was or what colours they were sporting, or it was a professor. Regardless, it was probably safer to submit themselves quietly than to try to run away. “What if it’s an older student, do you suppose they will report us?” Alistair asked, suddenly nervous. He had just started enjoying the ride.

As they approached the edge of the water, near where he had been picked up moments ago, Alistair felt his heart sank a little. That certainly wasn’t a professor standing on the bank. Would they be blackmailed? Required to give this student rides? What if it was a Prefect? As his mind turned over the worst, it took much longer than it should have for him to realize who exactly was standing there trying to get their attention.

Adrian!” he called, his voice a mixture of excitement and relief. Feeling safe, Alistair removed his left hand from the edge of the fabric to wave at his friend. Now they would all get to go on an adventure together.

Flying upwards placed a force on them to go down, so of course when they reached the apex and began going down, the force was there to make them go up.  It was a little mind numbing at first, but the best part was when they reached the top of the upwards climb and began going down there was a second of two...a mere moment happened, when they were neither going up or down, just hanging there in a wild floating space all their own.  This must have been what it was like to be levitated.  She had flown before, but never had anyone that she knew of been levitated and floating helplessly on their own.

That had been the best part of their flight, but now they were looking at the red sparks that someone had shot to get their attention.  As Cerri pulled closer and closer to the source of the sparks.  Her friend seemed bothered they would be turned in for riding a carpet.  Cerri couldn't see anything wrong with the idea.  It seemed silly to her.
"I doubt anyone would report us.  Professor Denman's been scooting through the halls on one of his own.  If they turn us in, they'd have to turn him in too.  And who wants to turn Professor Denman in?"  She grinned as they glided over the water.

As Alistair called out Adrian's name, Cerri was delighted to think he finally did make it.  All this time she had thought she was late to meet her friends that she invited out and it turned out they were late meeting her.  Finally getting close enough to the boy, Cerri slowed the carpet down to a mere crawl.  They could jump off of the moving floor if they wanted and it wouldn't have hurt them a bit.  Coming to a stop infront of their friend, Cerri gave Adrian a bit of a playful glare.
"Adrian MacDermott.  What have you been doing that you are so late to my carpet flying lesson?  Hmm?"  She raised an eyebrow in jest, letting him know she wasn't really angry and just playing around.
