Conflict and hardship:
Genevieve’s family moved to England from France a few years ago to avoid any trouble her father is sure is stirring, which leaves her to adjust to that. Otherwise she lives an easy life, the only thing she is, or should be struggling with, is her own laziness and lack of desire to really get out and do something.
Motivation, Passion and Drive:
Mostly she just wants to be left alone to learn what she wants at her own pace when she wants to. She doesn’t really have any kind of goal or idea of what she wants to do with her life, other than to have adventures, but she would most likely find that adventures are nasty things that make you late for supper.
Motto or catchphrase:
Sometimes I wish I was a cloud, just floating around, free in the sky.
Overall personality:
Genevieve is firstly very intelligent, but she is also unmotivated. She’s dreamy, and will often stop in the middle of things to day dream about a fairy tale or a story about the Indians in American or pirates or the Far East. When she’s interested in something she works at it and will excel, otherwise it often takes forever for her to get things done and she often doesn’t do as well as she could. She’ll have bursts of energy when she’ll want to work on something, but unless she is able to begin immediately she loses interest.
She’s very patient and doesn’t get angry easily. She’ll laugh off insults and respond in kind, but doesn’t get visibly excited or angry. She’s not the kind to recklessly do anything, and would rather plan and plot to make someone look stupid. If she bothers. Often she’ll ignore them until she gets around to planning or plotting anything, if she ever does. When it comes to anything else Genevieve is more likely not to plan things, and just to wing it when it comes down to it, after all so often plans don’t go as they’re supposed to, and she thinks people who over plan things are annoying. If you must it’s better to prepare for everything that could go wrong, instead of coming up with intricate plans, for those who worry about that kind of thing. She’s very laidback about everything and hardly ever worries.
Genevieve isn’t stuck up, but if she thinks someone is below herself and she dislikes them she won’t waste time on them. Otherwise she tends to be kind and to stick up for the under dog, albeit in her own fashion. She’s a good friend and steady. She’s not particularly good at giving advice, but will listen to what other people have to say. When she says she’s going to do something she can be depended on to do, although she’ll take her time doing it. She’s not particularly ambitious at eleven, although she’s had it hammered into her head along with her siblings that they have to work hard.
She’s brave, but not in a roaring, outward way. She wouldn’t be the one to lead a charge, but the one to wait out a siege. She has the kind of quiet courage that allows to her get through anything and to survive it all. She’s not easily daunted and once she decides to do something she doesn’t give up. Genevieve is patient, and can out wait anyone she’s ever come across. Once her sight is set on something she will get it, eventually, you know, when she gets around to it. She’s good with small children and animals, and has a fondness for both.
Diary Entry:
May 30th
My tutor seems to think it would be a good idea for me to keep a journal of thoughts. Unfortunately Mother agrees and now Anne, Jacques, and I have to write in one everyday. It seems a waste of time to me. Who really cares what I think? For the matter am I ever going to look back and care? Probably not. Then again it does cut into class time, which is never a bad thing. No one needs to know what exactly I write. Or if I actually write at all. No, bad idea, now he’s walking up and down to make sure we aren’t just doodling.
I suppose I ought to actually write about feelings or events, whatever goes in something like this. Well I’ll keep it brief, I don’t want to be here all day.
Somehow I don’t think Mother’s thoughts that one of us will go into the Church will ever come true. Anne isn’t, to put it politely, chaste enough to be a nun. Jacques is a little hellion, George is off in the Navy, and Cecile, Pierre, and I have the witchcraft, magic, sorcery whatever you want to call it, going on. Everyone insists that isn’t what it is, but it’s not normal, what other people can make sparks fly out of their fingers or light candles from across the room?<br style="">
The Appearance
First Impression:
She looks well put together and pretty, most likely she’d be slouching and looking lazy and as if she’s in her own world where she’s the queen and no one who she doesn’t wish to exist exists.
On Second thought..:
More or less the first impression would be true, but if one gets to know her they may see that she occasionally rouses herself, and is paying far more attention than she sometimes seems.
Overall Appearance:
Genevieve has always had a slightly dark complexion which she inherited from her father. If forced to compare it, one could say it was a color similar to coffee with cream. She tans easily, and if she doesn’t cover herself, she darkens up quickly. Her hair is long and wavy, a color somewhere between dark blond and light brown, almost like caramel. From a distance her eyes appear black or brown, but when seen up close they are a shade of dark blue. She has still has a slightly young looking face, but would be quite pretty if she didn’t always look so bored and uninterested.

The Family History
Parentage:
Father: Jacques Bloch
Mother: Elizabeth Bloch
Siblings:
George-17
Anne-14
Jacques-9
Cecile-9
Pierre-4
Other important figures:
The family’s cook who came with them to England, Marie.
Tobias-old grumpy man who handles the animals, also came with them.
Reputation:
The Bloch family is one of (if not the) richest merchant families in the city. Some people dislike them for that, others look to them for help. They are treated with some suspicion, especially now, for being both Catholic and French.
Secrets:
None other than the magic in the family, her father isn’t one to keep secrets, he blusters.
General:
Genevieve had a relatively easy childhood, although she was schooled more than most girls in her time. She enjoys math, anything like a puzzle really and is fluent in French as she grew up there. She learned English from babyhood from her mother and then from tutors.
Elizabeth’s father was a successful English merchant. Jacques’s father was a less successful French merchant. When he died Jacques took over and from one shop managed to amass a large industry. In addition to several shops and ships he also owned a sugar plantation on Barbados.
Elizabeth and Jacques met in London when he was on business and began their courtship. While her father was unhappy with the prospect of his only daughter moving to France it was an excellent opportunity.
In 1789, Jacques decided France was too unstable. He sold his stores and houses and moved his family and ships to London, England. It didn’t take him long to attain a high position and become one of the wealthiest merchants in the city.
They have six children and of them Genevieve, Cecile, and Pierre are the only ones to show any signs of magic, although when they were told of Hogwarts it was a shock. They have no other known magical family members, and had always tried to hush up the strange events that happened to and around their three children.
Other than the move Genevieve’s life has been fairly easy. Although her family was rich since her father got there through work he never allowed his children to be spoiled and taught them the value of hard work, which may not have completely rubbed off on Genevieve.
Since the time she was five years old magic has burst out of her on occasion and with no training at all she has no idea how to wield it although she is quite interested in it. Her family has managed to keep it a secret, although some people do wonder about her.
The invitation to Hogwarts was a shock, but with urging Genevieve accepted. Since then she has learned as much as she could, when she felt like it, so as not to be left completely behind. She’s confident in her ability to catch up though. She’s a little nervous about going away, but not overly so. She will most likely miss her parents and Cecile and Pierre.

A black and white kitten named Laddybuck who she found and rescued from drowning.
Specific Questions for Muggleborns:
How did your parents react when you received a letter from Hogwarts?
A bit shocked, they were unsure whether or not is was real or not. However it was a bit of a relief and it explained all of the magical outbursts Genevieve has had.
What explanation is given to your family for your long absences while you are at Hogwarts?
To anyone who asks they’re told that Genevieve has been sent to finishing school. Somewhere far away. They don’t get any more specific.
What future did your character abandon in favor of coming to Hogwarts?
Only the future of being a normal wealthy girl and the prospect of marriage to an equally wealthy but normal boy in a few years.
How did your character find out they were magical, how long have they known and how did they react when they got their Hogwarts letter?
Genevieve’s magic first appeared when she was five and Cecile was crying. Anne was in charge but not paying attention, so until their mother returned Genevieve amused the two year old by trailing pink sparks from her fingertips and making them into shapes and animals for the baby to play with.
The Hogwarts letter was a bit of a relief. It explained all the weirdness of the magic that had been popping out of Genevieve.
Student Skills
School Ethic:
Genevieve is not at all fond of school or tutoring. Hogwarts sounds great to her, except for the going to classes bit.
Teacher Relation:
She’s not afraid of professors. They don’t hold real power of her, even at school. She’s likely to drift off during class and be lazy with homework. She’ll only respect a teacher who she deems earns it.
Work Ethic and Diligence:
Homework is just something that’s there, it’s optional right? She’s likely to misplace is as well as books, she’s not very organized. She has a lousy work ethic, which drives her father insane.
Subjects:
She’ll like Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, and Charms.
She’ll dislike Transfiguration, History of Magic, and Potions.
Where don't you want to be:
Difficult, none of them sound particularly good to her, Ravenclaws have to work too hard and seem too smart, Gryffindors have to seem too excited and enthusiastic, Hufflepuffs also have to work too hard, and Slytherins are too snooty and ambitious.
If she absolutely had to pick she’d probably say Ravenclaw, as studying is one of the banes of her existence.
(This is all based on what she’s heard and opinions she’s formed rather than hard facts.)
