Being a nurse at Hogwarts school for Witchcraft and Wizardry was everything Nurse Longbottom needed to be completely satisfied in life. No day was the same, most injuries were either easy to treat or extremely interesting, and her patients were normally grateful for any discretion she could offer. Although Loretta was a no nonsense type of person, she had once attended Hogwarts as well and knew better than to ask how the gaping holes and green stinking puss had come about.

Today began like every other day. She woke up the one patient she was tending to at the moment; a mousy haired Slytherin boy who had to have had his eyesight restored over night. A close inspection told her the child was fine and could see well enough to go back to class, so she booted him out of her ward without mercy.

The Hospital wing looked meticulous in the morning light that flooded in through the high windows. All beds were made, pots and pans were stacked on their shelves and all her medical supplies were safely stored away in her office. If she was lucky, she might be able to knit that new sweater before the next unfortunate would wander into her ward.

The newest item from Hogsmeade to hit the Hogwart's Halls, was a licorice that did taste sweet, once you got through the hard bug-like exoskeleton. Everyone had a taste for them now, since the older students had gone and brought them back. Even some of the Griffyndor students were selling them to the younger students who weren't old enough to venture out and away from the Castle yet, just because they knew there was a market for them. Cerri had tried them too, of course. Every student had. After reading the warning, she consumed three more.

"Warning, this is a magical sweet.
Careful how much ye' eat
Lest ye' be resting off your feet
Feeling ill and spitting slugs, til red and beet!
"
(And yes I did spell out a turnip instead of a tired descriptor, heh!)

That was exactly what was happening as well. A few of the Ravenclaw younger students had a bet to see just how many a person could tolerate before they felt the effects of the warning label. So far Cerri had been in the lead, with a few other classmates right behind her. Before they knew it, they were all spitting up slugs with the most disgusting after tastes. If one dared to describe it, it was something akin to licorice with a bit of vomit and lucretiousness mixed in because of the most disgusting things exiting her mouth and into a well placed canister beside her bed. She wasn't alone, about 4 or 5 other cots in the Hospital room were filled with other students.

As Allison sat in the Great Hall, owls arrived with letters as usually. One owl landed at the Hufflepuff table and looked lost, no one was claiming him. A fellow Hufflepuff informed Allison that the birds owner was in the hospital wing vomitting slugs, as were several Ravenclaw students. Allison thought a moment, then decided she would bring them their mail. Allison went around the tables and collected the letters and packages then made her way to the hospital wing. Spitting up slugs didn't sound like fun, but unlike her mum she was not squeamish and could handle a trip to see ill students. Maybe she could even meet some new people in the hospital wing!

As Allison walked into the ward, she was suddenly aware of the clean, clinical smell. Allison made her way around the beds, calling out names then finding their owners. Last she came upon the name Cerridwyn Glynn. Cerridwyn? Allison called out. There were only a few people who had not gotten mail yet, and Allison was hopeing whomever this Cerridwyn was she would want to talk...or at least would after she got out of the hospital wing.

Cerri was busy hugging her best friend of the moment, a metal bucket, when a young girl walked in and started calling names and handing mail out. Cerri didn't pay much attention as she was too ill to really care. Why did she have to decide on this contest? Surely there were other ways to get what she needed. A few moments passed by ebfore another foul moment she wished she could forget happened. It was so disgusting and...and...embarrassing. But there was a plus side to it all, well two really, but the best part was that she was in the lead last she remembered.

~It would be worth it in the long run, please let this all be worth it.~ She pleaded with herself, trying to find a silver lining to this dark cloud.
"Cerridwyn." She heard her name called out. Looking up with the most pitiful look on her face, Cerri was forced to look back down and into the bucket a second later. With her face inside the bucket, she raised her arm awkwardly as if to signal the girl over.
"Here." Her voice echoed inside the bucket. It's odd to hear yourself when you're in a new sound environment. It just didn't sound like her at all, and she knew it. She could only guess that without her face, it wouldn't look like her either.

"Um..Hey so I brought you your mail." Allison said awkwardly as she walked towards the girl who had identified herself as Cerridwyn. This must be so embarrassing for her...I hope I don't make things worse! Allison thought. "So...you must be pretty lonely in here?" Allison asked as she tried to sound casual. Obviously, the girl was not at her best, but Allison believed that everyone could use someone to talk to. Especially when you've been in a hospital wing.

Cerri's misery was beginning to subside. Nothing was happening with the frequency it had before. With her head still over the bucket she reached up behind her head and pulled her hair back, hoping she had not been marked with her own mire before sitting up. Thankfully the magical sweets were a limited issue for the girl. Imagine what the world would have been like had it have been a catching virus. EWW! Sifficed to say, England would have a lot more beautiful gardens.

Cerri's attentions were immediately grabbed when the girl in front of her annouced she had brought her mail. The Ravenclaw's eyes lit up with surprise and disbelief.
"I....I have mail?" She asked allowed, shocked. She brought a dainty handkerchief to her face and cleaned herself off.
"Please, please. Bring it here." She hadn't gotten any mail from her family since her sister, Gwyneth, had placed the house in a quarantine. She held her free hand out, impatiently hoping to find a letter from her Father.

The girl seemed eager to get her letter. She also ignored Allison's question which was alright. Maybe Allison should leave. It seemed this girl was caught up in the moment and Allison felt out of place. Just in case thought, Allison pulled out her own letter. She had recieved it the day before and had been too afraid to open it. It was from her Aunt Ethel. Allison knew that due to the small pox epidemic her trip to London would be canceled, but Allison didn't know if she could bear to read the words. Allison rubbed her thumb over the neat cursive of her Aunt. Alice Rose she read to herself. It was a nickname given to her by her Aunt. It felt nice and warm, it fit her her. Allison Cassidy Rose was so long and proper, even Allison felt too formal for her Aunt's taste. Sighing, Allison put her letter back into the pocket of her robes and waited just a little longer to see if there was maybe still some hope of befriending the girl.

Cerri eagerly reached for her letter. It had been too long a while since she had gotten mail from her family. She looked over the folded paper reading it. A letter from her Aunt Mathilda. That woman treated her with respect and fun and Cerri loved being around her. From the glass knick knacks everywhere to the painted plates she kept mounted on her walls. Cerri really liked her Aunt, a lot and often wished she could go live with her and get out of her family obligations.

"Oh, thank you. I didn't realize I would get mail today." She said realizing that if she opened the letter and read it, that might be seen as a little rude to the girl that had brought it to her.
"I'm sorry, you asked me a question. I'm affraid I missed part of it." She sat up feeling a lot better since she first came in. She wasn't well by any means, but feeling better meant no more embarrassing moments. She placed the bucket down, disgusted, herself, by it's contents. She was quite careful to place the bucket on the opposite side of the bed.

Cerri laid the letter down to the bed and looked up to Cassidy.
"Allison, right? I haven't spent much time getting to know the Firstyears as much as I should have." She didn't really have to answer the question Cassidy asked. It had been lonely and probably would be until she was feeling better to go back to her dorm. No one wants to stick around when such disgusting things were being retched.

"I don't think I've ever been in here before. What's in all those cabinets?" Cerri pondered as she looked over the counters that seemed to be packed with a number of different colored vials and potions and even salves of madicinal use. Cerri wondered if a sleeping draught was part of the stores here. She might need it later in the evening when it was time for sleep.

"Allison Cassidy, Allison, Alice, it's all the same. And no matter, my question." Allison was wondering if sticking around was a bad idea. When Cerridwyn mentioned the cabinets Allison turned to look. The counters were filled with liquids of all colors and densities in all sorts of bottles and vials. Hmmmm Allson thought It would be interesting to know what all of that did. I love magic, imagin haveing to heal the muggle way! Allison found herself drifting nearer and nearer. Magic has a cure for everything right? so...what if they have a cure for small pox! I could go to london! then a little voice in her head told her if they had it they would have used it. No matter, she would check just incase.

"Allison, Alice..." Cerri weighed which one sounded better. Knowing that she didn't mind either one, Cerri might very well use both and interchange them for fun.
"Will you see if they have anything labeled to help with sleeping. Like a Sleeping Draught or Mindclouts? I think I'm going to need to sleep well tonight." Cerri called out to her new friend. Cerri would have checked herself, but being scared that the slugs might come back was not a pleasant fear to have.

After a few moments Cerri looked back up to Alice with a slight grin. This was perfect. Not that Cerri liked using others, but now she might get everything accomplished from the Hospital Wing that she set out on, without anyone figuring out her greater plan. Oh those Slytherins were going to have a great time figuring out what happened!

Allison started searching. She quickly found a sleeping draught, but nothing even resembled a cure for small pox. Ug, some of this stuff is so nasty! I guess you really have to be prepared for anything here...Deciding that it was no use looking any longer, she turned back to Cerridwyn with the Sleeping Draught in hand and set it next to her bed for later use.

"Have you missed many classes since you have been in? I can get your work or something if you would like." Allison offered. Allison didn't care for being behind in class and she guessed no one else would either, especially a Ravenclaw.

Cerri looked to Allison curiously. There hadn't been any classes offered since Winter Break had started.
"Umm, no. I just got here today. A few hours really. But thanks for your concern." The Ravenclaw wasn't really sure how to take this and thought she should just be nice and polite over the matter. Allison did bring her her mail and all and tht was a very thoughtful thing to do.

"So. How has your first year at Hogwart's been? Do you like it here? I do. I think this is the best place in the world. Schooling and education but my Aunt Mathilda told me that the friends I make here will last me the rest of my life." Cerri nodded thoughtfully as she thought about the friends and acquaintances she had met so far.

"Education is definatley important. As far as friends go, Your Aunt is very wise. I know how important a social life can be later on and it's always good to have someone watching your back. I think I like it here just fine, though I often times find myself longing for home." Allison thought back to her own Aunt whom she missed dearly. The letter in Allison's pocket seemed to grow heavier as she thought more and more about her. Allison hadn't heard from her in a while, and while her anual trip over Christmas was spoiled because of small pox she hadn't thought to write home and check on every one's health.

"Oh most definitely!" Cerri reiterated Allison's sentence.
"This place is always and always will be ~so~ far from home, even if home is right down the street." She grinned remembering her first year here. But on Cerri's side there was the fact that she wasn't with her parents while here. It was like being on vacation. The Glynn Elders weren't bad people, it was just that mum could be a bit overbearing with her social attitudes. Mrs. Glynn came from a well to do pureblood family, while Mr. Glynn, pureblood as he was, not not as influential as his wife was. She had money and he had a successful business. It was a marriage matched in antiquity, perfect in everyway except for the the loving fun of the family.

"Yes. My Aunt is wonderful. Sometimes I wish she could be my mum. Oh, I'm sorry I shouldn't say that." Cerri remembered the trouble she got in last summer when she asked her father that same question. Oh that was a mess indeed.

"I understand what you mean, though." Allison responded. "I often times prefer my aunt as well. My can be a little on the harsher side. My aunt at least lets me speak with whom I wish. My Mum and Father would have a fit if they knew I talked to half bloods and muggle borns. Of course, I have no problem, we are all equals after all, my parents just don't quite understand that." Allison realized she might have been babbling on again. "sorry," Allison added meekly. She hoped she hadn't offended her. After all, maybe she was a muggleborn who was tired of comments about blood status. Who was Allison to know? Sometimes Allison took being pureblood --especially from her family-- for granted. Maybe she should be a little more sensetive...

Perfect. The vial of sleeping draught was by her bed side. All she needed to do was keep Ms. Longbottom from realizing it was missing from the cabinets, use it, and then put it back. It was well laid out in her mind, and she had Allison to thank for that. She looked over to the other Ravenclaws who were in the Hospital suffering just as she was from magical candy sickness with a small grin. It was a plan well laid out before the Houses.

"Sorry?" That single word caught Cerri's immediate attention.
"Sorry for what?" She asked confused. "My mother would have a fit if she found out my best friends here at Hogwarts were boys." The very thought of the conversation Cerri and her mother were going to have if such knowledge got out gave her both a chill down her spine and rebellious smile on her face.
"Don't worry about a thing. I completely understand."

Allison smiled back at Cerridwyn. She was much like the children Allison had liked to play with back home when her Mum's back was turned. She herself knew that boys could be more entertaining. Thinking of the kind of fun she was used to an idea poped in her head. "What got you in here," she looked around the hospital wing, "In the first place, if you don't mind my asking." Allison could only imagin the kinds of things that could happen at Hogwarts. Remembering everything she saw in the cabinet earlier, she wondered if she really wanted to know.

Feeling considerably better than she did when she first walked in, Cerri grinned at Allison's question. How does someone just out and out claim they planned to get sick?
"I ate too many magic candies." They don't obviously. Instead, she bothered not to say the exact the reasoning behind it all and opted for just the factual truth.
"I don't recommend that for anyone, not even enemies." She paused for a moment rethinking it all.
"Well, okay, yes, probably for enemies." It's quite humilating.

She looked to the sleeping draught that was on the small nightstand next to her bed. Mission accomplished

(I think this should end the thread unless Ms. Longbottom feels the need to jump in

OOC: I dont mind it ending

After one good laugh about magical candies and enemies, Allison realized she had places to be. "I best be off," Allison said "Take care!" Allison then skipped out of the hospital wing, hoping she had made a friend.
