Alistair's Character Card:
The Basics:

Full Character Name: Alistair Eric Bauldaugh (pronounced Bald-off)
Likes to be called: Alistair is good
Birthdate: August 20th, 1782
Age: 11
Residence: Alistair grew up far out in the country. He spent his days as a youngster out in the sunshine like his father thought he should. He has never much enjoyed the bustle of cities, though he finds all of the people fun to be around. He has a bad habit of overhearing conversations when he’s near groups of people he doesn’t know.
Blood: Pureblood
Social Class/father’s occupation: Alistair’s father is a skilled worker and has a job mending ancient and intricate magical items in an antique shop.
The Personality
Emotional Disposition: Generally a happy person
Core Value: Sociability
Positive Characteristics: Alistair loves to chat and will rarely turn down a conversation unless there is something essential he must run off and do. He can be a bit of a goof ball for the sake of making someone laugh, and generally likes being an up-beat sort of guy.
Negative Characteristics: Alistair has the habit of being full of himself. He likes to look at his reflection when no one is looking and his terrible sense of time makes him late to absolutely everything. He is also rather naïve at times.
Conflict and hardship: Alistair has always felt like the odd one out, thus his desire to fit in. His closest sibling is ten years his elder and, though he’s been told it wasn’t his fault, Alistair feels abandoned by his mother’s actions. (See family section)
Motivation, Passion and Drive: Alistair just likes to be where people can see him. He enjoys making people laugh or having fun with a few of his closest friends. Unfortunately he has no real career aspirations as of this point and has thought little of what he wants to do in school besides getting out of Transfiguration - it’s not that he doesn’t like the subject, he just doesn’t feel like it’s something he’ll do well in.
If he does have a passion, it’s running. It’s a time of personal reflection and thoughtfulness.
Motto or catchphrase: “True friendship isn’t about being there when it’s convenient; it’s about being there when it isn’t”
Overall personality: Alistair is first and foremost an athlete. He spends at least an hour each day running to stay in shape, relax, think personally, and to appease his love of the outdoors. Even though when he’s playing other sports he likes being with friends, running is something he does alone.
Aside from running though, Alistair feels completely out of place without companions. He tries to make new friends wherever he goes, be in it the classroom, halls, breakfast table, etc. He enjoys the company of both guys and girls, but for different reasons (guys to be pals, girls to impress).
Alistair believes that all problems can be solved if you know how to debate. He can usually talk his way out of a bad situation. He isn’t opposed to dueling (especially a friendly duel between mates) if talking just isn’t working (of course, he doesn’t yet know how to duel).
Diary Entry:
(Past)
August 3rd, 1789
Zackarhia is going to be going off to school again soon, dad seems a little upset about it. I think he gets lonely when it’s just me and him. But at least we have the rest of the month together. I think Holly might visit before Zackarhia leaves, but I haven’t gotten an owl from her in a long while. Maybe she’ll come for my birthday!
I spent a lot of time today out in the garden. Dad says that the squash is going to be bigger than I am when I’m all done. I really hope so, I think he’d like that. It isn’t hard though, all I have to do is put my hand on it and want it to be bigger. I wonder if it will taste okay. Zackarhia says it will taste funny because I don’t know magic as well as he does. I bet he’s wrong.
(Present)
August 3rd, 1793.
It’s almost time for me to go to Hogwarts! Zackarhia told me I should talk out loud to the hat they are going to put on my head, but I don’t think I should believe him. I told dad what he said and he just laughed which makes me not want to believe him even more.
I’m really excited to go see the Hogwarts grounds. It will be fun to go running in a new place; a change of scenery and all. Zackarhia says a lot of kids go running in the forest. Again, I’m pretty sure he’s lying, but I do like the forest here at home, so I’ll have to give it a try. Then again, I don’t like running when other people are around. I’ll just have to see how many kids are there.
I hope the professors like me. I wonder if anyone has ever done so badly that they were kicked out. I hope I’m not that bad. I have done a little magic, but not a lot because dad says I shouldn’t until I get to school. But what if all of the other kids already know a lot of stuff? Zackarhia says there is a class all about plants, I really want to take that one.
I’m also looking forward to the other kids. I haven’t gotten to be around many children since last Christmas when all of my cousins came over. It’ll be fun to be around so many people for a change.
The Appearance
First Impression: A quick look may fool you all into thinking Alistair is super cute and suave with his big smile and big brown eyes.
On Second thought..: Alistair is somewhat of a dork. He likes to brush things off lightly to avoid awkwardness and, if he doesn’t make it to class in time to get a seat up front, he has to wear glasses to offset his nearsightedness.
Overall Appearance: Alistair thinks of himself as something only slightly shy of a God when it comes to his appearance. He has naturally brown hair that hangs down past his ears is a shaggy way or may be spiked if he’s forced to get it cut. He has dark chocolate brown eyes that are always shifting about unless he’s talking to a pretty girl; in which case they are glued to her.
Though he spends a lot of time outside, he is a little pale and has a spattering of freckles across his face. His running keeps him in shape, thus he has very toned muscles. However he looks a little lanky as he is somewhat too tall for his weight.
Basic Skills:
Can your character:
Read: If it sounds like a good read
Write: In the usual untidy scrawl
Handle Money: Alistair isn't used to buying much, since he's rarely in town. Chances are good that if something caught his eye, he would buy it.
The Family History
Parentage: Alistair was born to two wizards. His father, Casin Bauldaugh, raised Alistair and his older siblings after their mother left the family when Alistair was four months old. Casin is currently seeing a new woman, but Alistair doesn’t feel very connected with her and is content with avoiding her whenever he is home.
Siblings: Alistair is the youngest of four children. Closest to him is his brother Zackarhia, 21, who works in the ministry and showed Alistair what an ego really is. Next is the only sister, Holly, 25. She works as a performer and spends most of her time in France. Though she spends a lot of time in front of muggles, she has never abandoned her magical background and still visits home every so often. The oldest brother Peter, 27, left to live with his grandparents when his mother left. After leaving Hogwarts he went to work in London and is scarcely heard from.
Other important figures: Because the Bauldaugh family is fairly secluded out in the country, it is rare that Alistair meets with distant family for reasons other than Holiday. Though he has a certain fondness for his grandmother, she hasn’t ever said anything profound to change his life.
Reputation: Again, the family is hardly known and hold little of a reputation. Because Casin works for a shop owned by another wizard, he isn’t even known in town.
Secrets: Alistair’s mother is never brought up if the subject can be helped. Truth be told, he isn’t even aware of her name.
General: The best kept secret in the Bauldaugh family are the amazing sugar cookies that Alistair stuffs himself with on Christmas day even though he usually doesn’t care for sweets.
The Wizard Information:
Wand: 9 ¾ inches, Laurel wood, Phoenix feather core
Pet: Though Alistair has a dog that he loves, he has been forced to leave it at home, so he’ll have no animal companion this year.
Specific Questions for Purebloods:
There are quite a few magical things about the house?
Having raised several children mostly on his own, Alistair’s father learned more than ever to appreciate the help magic brought. At the same time, Casin, would occasionally bring home interesting things from work home for his children. Alistair’s favourite was a small music box that had several different songs. Each song was from a different area in the world. There would be small figures inside the box dancing to the music and on the inside of the lid, which you could see behind the dancing people, had an image of where the song originated.
How strict were your parents in enforcing no underage magic?
By the time Alistair could say “magic” his older siblings were well into school and it was pretty much impossible to keep him out of it. Casin didn’t encourage Alistair to use magic, but there was little punishment. It was also one of the few ways that Alistair would bond with his siblings. However, he by no means has any control or knowledge of real spells.
Are there any spells which are used a lot by your parents?
“Reparo”
Has you character always known they were magical or did they worry they were a squib?
There was never a question that Alistair would become a wizard. Though he didn’t show much interest in blowing things up as Zackarhia had, Alistair seemed to have a way with nature. One spring Alistair began taking care of an old and overgrown garden to the side of the house. The pumpkins grew so big that Alistair could hardly carry them into the house.
Does your character have any strong feelings (good or bad) about magic or is it just part of their life?
Alistair believes some people rely too much on magic and too little on themselves. Yet he also knows that, as a wizard, magic is part of who he is and it would be a waste of a gift not to use it.
Student Skills:
School Ethic: School in general isn’t all that fun for Alistair. His dad taught his children the basics on his days off, but that had always been his wife’s area of expertise. Alistair sometimes feels behind, especially since all of his siblings have finished Hogwarts. But he is willing to give school a try and he is very excited about going to learn from proper teachers.
Teacher Relation: Alistair wants everyone to like him, authorities included. He will never show disrespect toward an adult unless something truly irritating or unfair is said by the professor.
Work Ethic and Diligence: If something interests Alistair he’ll put an unusual amount of work into it; even if it means getting very little sleep. He tries very hard, but sometimes he falls short in his practical abilities. He loves to write, even if some of his ideas seem to come from his short attention span.
Subjects: Alistair loves the outdoors, so flying, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, and any classes that decide to take field trips will interest him greatly. He will try hard in all of his classes, yet he has a bad feeling about Transfiguration.
Where don't you want to be: Alistair would not want to be in Slytherin. He enjoys being friendly and it seems as though all of them have had their parades rained on.
