Full Character Name: Katharina Anne Hickson
Likes to be called: Kat, though she's been called Ina before.
Birthdate: April 19, 1782
Age: 11
Residence: Katharina's family had been born and raised in London, in an area that would be considered upper lower class at best. Their house is small, having only a few tiny rooms that she and her many siblings and parents must share. Her home, though having recent renovations, is basically falling apart and rickety.
Blood: Muggleborn
Social Class/father’s occupation: Katharina's father is a sailor, while her mother (and the children who are old enough) sell fish on the docks.
The Personality
Emotional Disposition: Optimistic and rather mischievous.
Core Value: Good-natured.
Positive Characteristics: Katharina is as easy going as they come, always willing to go with the flow of whatever situation she happens to be in. Adapting to situations is pretty easy for her, and she's pretty open minded. Always optimisitic and upbeat, Katharina looks on the bright side of things, and typically doesn't let stuff bother her. Her number one love is laughing, and though she doesn't have much of a knack for creating laughter, she's definitely there enjoying the joke. Most importantly, Katharina has ambition - she didn't have much of a hope rising in the Muggle world, but things are different in the wizarding world - and she aspires to be a great witch someday, maybe even the equivalent of a politician (something unheard of with Muggle women). If you tell her that she can't do something, it only makes her want to do it that much more - which can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the situation.
Negative Characteristics: When it comes to decision-making, Katharina is not the best, since she's highly indecisive. Rather than dealing with things that make her uncomfortable or contradict her optimism, she has a tendency to ignore them or bury them deep within instead of dealing with it. A mischievous streak runs through her veins, and can often be found participating in sketchy activities for the sake of a little practical joke - which can usually mean a deduction of House Points. Sometimes, she goes a little too far with the jokes. Katharina's ambition can go into overdrive, causing something of an obsession with learning sorcery and excelling in certain areas. Stubbornness is a trait that runs in her family - and she has it in spades. Finally, Katharina isn't the most graceful girl (which basically means she can be pretty clumsy) and since her father is a sailor, she knows a wide variety of curse words (that probably won't be RP'd due to their graphic content, lol).
What are the darker sides of your personality? Greedy, selfish, bad memory, clumsy... etc
Conflict and hardship: Katharina, being a merchant's daughter, was expected to grow up and marry a merchant's son. She was to take on the normal role of a woman in the 18th century - marrying young, baring several children for her husband, and running the show at home if they had a bit of money, working in a family-run business if they didn't. Muggle females had a limited number of possible professions in life, and were expected to act submissive and proper at all times (or most of the time). This does not suit Katharina at all, but whenever she is at home in the Muggle world with her family, she must play this role. It's only in the wizarding realm that she can truly feel at home, feel like herself, and be free. Eventually, she will have to join her two sides together, but at the moment, she is content to leave things as they are.
Motivation, Passion and Drive: Katharina wants to prove that Muggleborns can be just as powerful as purebloods, and she has a lifelong ambition to be in the Ministry of Magic - not just the Ministry, but maybe even being the Minister itself.
Motto or catchphrase: --
Overall personality: Katharina is mildly outgoing, very adaptable, and always up for a bit of fun and a good laugh. She will participate in shady adventures as long as there's some fun to be had - and she doesn't think of the consequences of her actions until well after they're being dished out. She's pretty good at getting herself into trouble, but notoriously bad at getting herself out. Though she's well meaning, Katharina can be oblivious to other people's feeling and obvious emotions and situations. What's worse, her own ambition can blind Katharina, creating a competitive urge, and can take central focus, causing Katharina to seem rather selfish and possessed. Overall, Katharina is a tomboy, always had been, and loves playing in "boy games" and partaking in "boyish activities."
Diary Entry:
Dear Diary,
Mum had a fit today. Me and Jeremiah went and turned the whole stand of fish over on old man Levi cuz he went and ratted us out to ma about how we was "playing" with Goody's cat... and now we're both grounded. It was great, though, the look of him covered in fish and guts and smelling to high heaven... me and Jeremiah laughed so hard we cried. That's when ma found us - laughing behind a couple grain barrels in the next stall. Our hides were worn, and we were sent to separate rooms. Ma promises to tell pa about it, but he won't be back for another month, and she'll probably forget all about it by then.
The Appearance
First Impression: Relaxed with a friendly smile.
On Second thought..: She's not so much friendly as amused by most everything... but the relaxed part is accurate.
Overall Appearance: Katharina has an oval face, brown doe eyes, a straight nose, and thick lips usually curved into a pleasant smile. There's a small dimple in her chin, and her skin tone is warm - a tan shade naturally that darkens when she's exposed to sun. Her hair is naturally straight, on the thin side, though fine, and is a brown somewhere between light and medium (depending, again, on sun exposure). She's tall for her age, thin, and has a good muscles from playing rough with her brothers.
Basic Skills:
Can your character:
Read: Not really. She can recognize a few letters here and there, even whole words and names, but can't read sentences or books.
Write: She can write worse than she can read.
Handle Money: Yes. But don't give her money and not expect her to spend it on sweets.
The Family History
Parentage: Prudence and Gareth Hickson. Prudence is strict and stressed from the large brood she bore her husband and for the lack of her husband's presence beside her most of the time. Gareth is much like Katharina in personality, but far, far cruder and more willing to fight.
Siblings: Piers, Stephen, Jeremiah, Ruth, and Warwick. Katharina is between Jeremiah and Ruth.
Other important figures: No, not really.
Reputation: The Hicksons are known for having a large, rough=housing brood of children that Prudence has trouble keeping track of, let alone under her thumb. Gareth is also known for his being a sailor that likes to fight, causing animosity with a couple of men from their neck of the woods.
Secrets: No, the Hicksons are pretty open. At least, there are no secrets that Katharina is aware of as of yet... and she's not sure if her being a witch counts.
General: Jeremiah is Katharina's partner in crime and best friend, up until she found out she was a witch. Now, he's
The Wizard Information:
Wand: 7 3/4 in. willow, with a center of unicorn hair.
Pet: No pet... her family couldn't afford it.

Specific Questions for Muggleborns:
How did your parents react when you received a letter from Hogwarts? They couldn't read it, and had to take it to someone who could - and promptly thought it was a joke. There was bad blood between the reader and the family until a representative showed up and explained things. Then, they were shocked and treated Katharina as though she were a social pariah for a while... they aren't too thrilled about her "abnormality."
What explanation is given to your family for your long absences while you are at Hogwarts? They've sent Katharina off to apprentice to a seamstress in Bath.
What future did your character abandon in favor of coming to Hogwarts? A dreary one. Full of marriage at a young age, working for her mother selling fish, and baring numerous children at the cost of her own health and patience.
How did your character find out they were magical, how long have they known and how did they react when they got their Hogwarts letter? Katharina knew that she wasn't "normal" but she and her family kept it to theirselves, not wanting to have any nasty rumors about "the family's business" being spread. Katharina has known she was special since she was four, when she stopped a wayward carriage from trampling and killing herself... and when she looked, she was on the top of a building, her goal in the first place. When the letter came, and it was finally drilled into her head that she was, in fact, a witch and would learn how to use magic, Katharina was relieved - especially when she found out that women can have jobs almost equally as well as men.
Student Skills:
School Ethic: Katharina has never gone to school before and didn't want to go now. She's never had the opportunity to learn anything from a teacher-like person (other than her parents, and that was only practical stuff). She's trying to keep an open mind, though, because she wants to use magic, and the only way she can is by going to Hogwarts.
Teacher Relation: She won't like someone telling her what to do at all, but she's determined to master the magical arts, so her ambition will (in most cases) override that dislike. If she doesn't think that the class is necessary, or she otherwise doesn't get along with the teacher, she may be disruptive and talk back, but otherwise, she'll bite her tongue and get it done and over with.
Work Ethic and Diligence: Since Katharina has never owned a book before, and had no opportunity to learn how to write, she will treat her things like gold. She's quite proud to own a book, even if it is just a schoolbook. She will work hard, though she fears her best may not be enough, and is worried she'll be far behind the other students.
Subjects: History of magic would probably be the most detested, along with any other course that doesn't require actual magic (like astronomy, herbology, and potions). Her favorite subject would most likely be Charms, but the subject that would inspire her to work hard would be Transfiguration, since it is notoriously difficult.
Where don't you want to be: Katharina would least like Slytherin.
