The Basics:
Full Character Name: Siobhan Quinn
Likes to be called: Everyone calls her Siobhan.
Birthdate: June 5 1782
Age: 11
Residence: Bedfordshire, England. Her father's family have been merchants there for many generations.
Blood: Half-blood (Muggle mother, wizard father)
Social Class/father’s occupation: Her father works as a well off merchant, although they aren't rolling in the money. His trade enables his family to live in moderate luxury, although Siobhan likes to help out around the house wherever she can.
The Personality
Emotional Disposition: Openly warm and very curious
Core Value: Kind
Positive Characteristics: Siobhan is a very kind person. She is very polite to strangers, and is fiercely loyal to her friends. She is also a very hard-worker, helping around the estate even when she doesn't have to.
Negative Characteristics: She can be slightly unforgiving if someone does her wrong. Even if they didn't mean to. She definitely holds a grudge. And she also refuses to back down in an argument, even when she is clearly wrong.
Conflict and hardship: She is often in conflict with her older sister. Catherine is the embodiment of society, actively looking for a husband at the age of 15. Siobhan thinks it's stupid, and many fights have arisen between the two. She is also frowned at a lot from her mother when she ventures home with her skirts covered in mud.
Motivation, Passion and Drive: Siobhan wants to understand why the world is as it is. She likes to explore the surrounding countryside, and often ventures with her father on his many business trips. She wants to know who she is in the world.
Motto or catchphrase: You cannot learn anything by simply sitting at a desk all day.
Overall personality: Siobhan is very open to learning. About anything. She wants to know who people are, why things work, why the sky is blue and any type of question there is. She loves hearing about people's views and opinions, although if they differ from her own, a heated discussion might follow.
She loves nature. If she is not sitting at home reading, then you will most likely find her out in the gardens exploring and getting her hands dirty, much to the ongoing dismay of her mother.
Diary Entry: Dear Diary,
I just got back from exploring some more of the woods with Charles. When mother asked where I was, she seemed very pleased with my answer. I have no idea why. She always smiles when I mention Charles. I suppose it is because he is such a nice young man.
It was very hard not being able to tell him that I’m a witch. I received my Hogwarts letter this morning, and was overjoyed. Father was beaming, and mother set about at once to make a celebratory dinner. Alexander promised to get me something special, but Catherine just gave a small smile and went back to her room.
I think I will read it again, just to make sure I get it all right. The thought of going to Hogwarts unprepared is unthinkable. Until next time.
The Appearance
First Impression: A proper young lady, with a slight air of mischief.
On Second thought..: Slightly. If they looked closer, they would probably see mud stains on the hem of her skirt. And she is only proper when out in society with her family.
Overall Appearance: Long dark brown hair, which is usually held together with a ribbon or in a bun. She very rarely wears bonnets. She has dark blue eyes, and a slightly oval face. She has a skinny frame, from the exercise she gets from always exploring far out from her home.
Basic Skills:
Can your character:
Read: She can read quite well, since her mother taught all her children from a young age.
Write: She can write legibly, although it isn't very neat.
Handle Money: She tends to avoid money, since that comes with responsibility.
The Family History
Parentage: Her father, William Quinn, is a wizard of great repute in their small wizarding community. To the Muggles, he is a very generous merchant and is always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Her mother, Amelia Latherby, was born into wealth, but settled quite happily into her more modest life with William. She happily runs the household, and is very kind to her servants. She spoils her children, although she can get frustrated with them if they don’t always obey her.
Siblings: She has two older siblings, Alexander and Catherine. Alex is following in his father’s professional footsteps, and shows early promise at the age of 18. Catherine spends all her time away from Hogwarts out in society, trying to find a husband at the tender age of 15.
Other important figures: Siobhan spends her time at home with her childhood friend, Charles. They happily explore the surrounding country side together. Unbeknownst to them, their mothers are very happy with their friendship, and intend to have them betrothed as soon as they are of a suitable age.
Reputation: The Quinn family is barely known throughout the magical community for anything reputable, although general opinion is that they are very kind and generous to those around them.
The Latherby family are well known for their wealth, and it was quite the scandal when Amelia settled down with someone considered her inferior.
Secrets: There are no secrets of note, although most of the Latherby family don’t know that Amelia is married to a wizard.
General: Siobhan and her family get along relatively well. She is closest to her brother, and follows him and her father whenever they allow her on business trips. She is fond of her mother, but can get tired of her pushing Siobhan into more lady-like activities. She cannot stand the shallow nature of her sister, and they tend to avoid each other when they can.
The Wizard Information:
Wand: Hawthorn, unicorn hair core
Pet: Siobhan is bringing her brand new kitten, Elizabeth (Lizzie for short) to Hogwarts. Her brother bought it for her as a present when she received her Hogwarts letter.
Specific Questions for Halfbloods:
Who in your family knows about the magical world? Her father’s side of the family knows all about magic. Her mother’s side doesn’t know a thing, and would probably use their own influential power to try and use the knowledge to their advantage. Both her brother and sister are magical.
What explanation is given to the muggles in your family about your long absences while you are at Hogwarts? Since her mother brought some of her own wealth into the marriage, and her father’s trade does quite well, it is accepted that her and her siblings are sent to schools abroad.
How does your family combine muggle and magical elements, is your house obviously magical or do you keep stuff hidden? Siobhan’s Muggle family rarely visits, so they have no worries from them. When Muggle neighbours visit, they try and curb their magical tendencies, although her sister most definitely enhances her appearance magically whenever there are gentlemen around.
Has you character always known they were magical or did they worry they were a squib? Siobhan performed her first magical act at the age of 3, so there was no question whether she was magical or not.
Does your character have any strong feelings (good or bad) about magic or is it just part of their life? Magic is not overly used in their household, so Siobhan would be quite happy to live without it. Her estate’s servants are Muggle, yet are happy to keep their master’s secret since they are treated so well.
Student Skills:
School Ethic: Although not forced to, Siobhan attended some school before being accepted to Hogwarts. Her mother wanted all her children to experience both Muggle and magical ways of life, so they had the choice. Being a naturally curious person, Siobhan jumped at the chance straight away. She loves school, and cannot wait until she starts Hogwarts.
Teacher Relation: She usually has no trouble with authority, unless they obviously have no idea what they are talking about, or conflict with her own ideals.
Work Ethic and Diligence: Siobhan puts every effort into all her work. She may not be the brightest girl, but she definitely is one of the most hard-working. She forces herself to study hard, as you cannot learn everything without going out and looking for it.
Subjects: Being a hands-on person, Siobhan is most looking forward to Herbology and Potions. How things work together is a great passion of hers.
Where don't you want to be: She doesn’t like the vanity and arrogance of Slytherin house, which her sister is in. She doesn’t understand the importance of being a pure-blood.
