The Potion Storage

"Remind me not to sign up for this class next year," she joked with a tall Gryffindor girl also shoving through the noisy sea of black, blue, and red.
Finally, Adelaine reached the staircase to dungeons and rushed down the stone steps. When she came to the last few steps, the crowded hall almost bursting with students, a boy raced past her and knocked her through an open door into another passage.
"Ugh, inconsiderate Slytherins," she shouted into the empty corridor. Curious, she shuffled down another staircase and through a large, unlocked door. She pushed it open and stepped inside. The room was dimly lit, giving it a rather spooky feel. Adele pulled out her wand and whispered "Lumos."
"What is this place?" she muttered, looking around.
Stacks of torn boxes, shelves piled high with rusty cauldrons, bottles filled with murky liquids, and barrels of bits and pieces belonging to beasts of all sorts surrounded the girl. This must be the school's potion storage room, she thought with delight. A sudden noise behind her made her jump, and she turned on the spot ready to face whatever stood before her.

Just as he rounded a corner and walked into a corridor he often did not use, he saw one of the more infamous Slytherin fifth year bullies, James McTavish pushing Adelaine Beaumont roughly out of his way into a corridor. MacTavish was that typical Slytherin idiot, more brawn than brains and definitely too stupid for all of his classes. MacTavish had been once beater on the Slytherin Quidditch team, but his constant weekly detentions in every other subject was the reason he was kicked off the team.
Alexander wasn't certain how he had ever managed to pass the majority of his classes, but it surely helped that his father worked at the Ministry. He heard Adelaine shout: "Ugh, inconsiderate Slytherins," He was glad that MacTavish was too far to have heard her, he wasn't exactly sporting or a gentlemen, he often picked on Slytherin's let alone members of other classes and Alexander had been witness to some seriously violently brutal behaviour by the dolt.
Pondering for a few seconds he thought hard as to whether he ought to just get to class; Peeves burst out of the empty classroom a few yards away and was swimming in the air on his back. His annoying whistling was pierced with his even worse cackle. Dazed, Alexander looked around to see if he could make it down the corridor before Peeves the Poltergeist noticed him but it seemed foolish to try. So he bounded down the stairs as quietly as possible.
Entering a corridor, he saw a door ajar and a wand lit inside it. However, just as he put out his hand to steady himself on the wall; Peeves zoomed down the staircase and threw a bucket of scarlet ink all over the walls, spraying a painting of a rather haggard looking warlock who took shelter in his neighbours portrait.
Alexander's eyes widened, as if time had slowed down and he watched as Peeves cackling to himself, throwing Gobstones on the floor, undoubtedly meaning to trip up any students that came down this way. Before he could sneak off the Poltergeist had noticed him.
"Stut-t-t-terring Sour beef" Peeves cackled with glee. "Shou-u-u-ld be in c-c-c-class you should." the Poltergeist stuttered mockingly. Alexander ran down the hall, feeling the whooshing down him, knowing he was about to drop something on his head. The Poltergeist threw an scarlet ink bottle at him, but missed him completely. Skidding to a halt, the only door ajar Alexander bounded through it and closed it. Peeves hitting the door with a force that shook the door completely.
Alexander held the door as hard as he could, Peeves pelting Alexander and the door with a torrent of insults and swear words that were sure to make anyone hot around the collar. Putting a small block of wood to block the door, Alexander turned around with a wand tip lit and right in his face. He couldn't see who it was.
"Could you please not point that right in my face?" he asked politely.

"Alexander, what are you doing here? Don't you have a class?" she questioned fervently, momentarily forgetting that she should be in class as well.
Without really thinking, Adele flicked her wand and locked the door. If someone came, at least they'd have time to hide behind a barrel of bat spleens or something. She muttered "Lumos Maxima" and the light at the tip of her wand beamed almost as brightly as the sun.

"Well, yes, History of Magic; but old Binns never notices whether or not students are in his class. I find it's best to do homework. I haven't yet tried skivving it off. Anyway, I saw that git MacTavish pushing you into the corridor but just as I was about to get to my class, Peeves jumped out of a class room and I tried to sneak away from him. Wasn't very successful since I'm now in a broom cupboard."
Without replying Adele locked the door behind him and turning around she muttered. "Lumos Maxima" the light gave off a strong light, which allowed them to see the insides of what Alexander had supposed was a broom cupboard. The small room was full of ingredients for potions and in fact he realised that this room although smaller and more crammed seemed to be quite tall and housed more potion ingredients than the apothecary in Diagon Alley.
"Hmm," Alexander spoke after a moment of looking around. "I reckon that we shouldn't be caught being here." he said casually without a note of worry in his voice.

"Do you still have the book from the Restricted Section, Sowerby?" she wondered.
She couldn't begin to imagine the things they could do. Now that they knew where the storage room was, they could try every potion in the book. The Polyjuice potion was the highest on her list; the thought of changing into another person gave her a feeling of great power.
"We can't tell anyone we know where it is," she warned the boy. "If the professor finds out, he'll put some sort of lock on it we can't break."

Suddenly she spoke up. "Do you still have the book from the Restricted Section, Sowerby?"
"No, it's no longer in my possession, although I did copy down a number of the potions" he added a bit stifly. "Beaumont." He preferred to be called after his first name and not his last name. She may have been older but she wasn't a teacher.
However she did seem to have a retort, although that may have been because she was now thinking of the things she could be doing with Moste Potente Potions.
"We can't tell anyone we know where it is," she warned the boy. He cocked his eyebrow, who would he tell after all. "If the professor finds out, he'll put some sort of lock on it we can't break."
"Yes, I suppose so." he added. "I don't suppose you think that he doesn't lock it when not in use? Professor Hart might be back any minute in fact." he said casually as he looked at the door.

People had been calling her by her last name for as long as she could remember, making fun of its French origins. She'd even been called a frog once or twice, but it didn't bother her. Adele would never understand the opposition between the two countries.
"I passed Hart in the corridor, he's in the middle of a lesson," she responded nonchalantly.
For a moment or two, she rifled through boxes of bottles filled with oddly-colored liquids. If only she'd paid more attention in Potions, she might actually be able to tell what some of the mixtures were. Without warning, she heard someone shuffle outside the door and unlock it. Adele gasped, silently pulling Alexander behind a stack of crates in the far corner of the room, and peered out to identify the intruder.

Lisette froze. Then turned around. A friendly-looking sixth year with a mischievous face was waving to her. "You're Lisette, right? Can you do me a favour?"
She nodded obediently, unsure of where this conversation was going. The female sixth year girl handed her a list. "Can you get these potion ingredients for me? Thanks!" She jabbered, and rushed off to talk to her giggling friends.
Lisette sighed, feigning acceptance, but in reality she had no idea where she could find these strange items. She furrowed her brow as she skimmed the lengthy list. The only place she could think of was...
The potions storage room. The FORBIDDEN potions storage room.
Sweating, she dashed off without a moment's thought, trying to justify her actions. If nobody sees me and I get it done FAST, nobody will ever, ever know.
She heard whispers, but didn't stop and think about it. It was only when she'd burst open and saw Adele's face peering back at her that she pieced it together.
"Who...who were you talking to?"

"Alexander and I wandered in here," she informed her hurriedly, as if she might go and snitch on them. "Wait...why are you here?"

Alexander shook his head. "Not especially, no."
The girl than answered his question about Professor Hart. "I passed Hart in the corridor, he's in the middle of a lesson,". Alexander pursed his lips in thought, they didn't have too much time. He doubted the Ghost of Professor Binns would notice he was gone, he didn't like being away from the class room but he didn't really care for the terrible History of Magic either.
Before he could answer though, a noise came from the other side of the door and Adelaine grabbed him and pulled him behind a stack of boxes. Adelaine peered out from behind the boxes, trying to figure out who was there.
The door burst open flooding the potions storage with light emanating from the corridor beyond. Whoever had entered the storage seemed to be sneaking in as well, because their footsteps were light and quiet. A familiar voice spoke in a louder whisper.
"Who...who were you talking to?"
Adelaine moved out from behind the boxes, before Alexander could, however he did so a minute after as Adelaine introduced him and motioned for him to leave the safety of the shadows.
"Alexander and I wandered in here," the Ravenclaw said to Lisette, who Alexander now saw as he stepped from behind the boxes. The boy smiled and nodded at his Slytherin house mate. "Wait...why are you here?"
Alexander cut across before anyone else could speak "It's alright Adelaine, Lisette can be trusted". He remembered after all the problem with the Muggles in Upper Flagley when they had cast magic against a Muggle beggar and were chased down an alley by more Muggle vagrants.
