December had crept up on the students and staff of Hogwarts, with it brought the first snowfall and a hopeful smell of Christmas around the corner. Classes would soon end and most would be leaving for home for the Christmas Holidays. Alexander however would be staying back, not having been thought of by his parents to be brought back.

He didn't mind, especially since his older sister and his cousin were not home to be there during the Holiday period.

The sky was a beautiful pale blue, with sparse few clouds, the sun shone overhead but it was a dreadfully cold day. The bitterness of this winter day biting into the cheeks and exposed flesh of the denizens of Hogwarts. Alexander sat in a ditch he had dug, covering himself from view by mounds of snow. The snow seemed to be a few feet deep. He had lit a small fire in the middle of his little hideout spot. While the fire provided much needed warmth, the boy had been clever in ensuring that a charm would be cast on the surrounding snow, to prevent the snow melting and drowning out the snow.

After preparing his fort, Alexander set out to make as many snow balls as possible.

Looking up from his position he saw that a window in the Ravenclaw common room seemed slightly ajar. Deciding that this was a perfect opportunity that could not be wasted, Alexander pointed his wand at the largest snow ball he had made (the size of a small snowman ). He flicked his wand murmuring "Wingardium Leviosa,". The large snow ball lifted, directing it with his wand at the window of the castle and saw the snow ball hurtling slowly through the air splatter the slightly ajar window. Just as it happened an explosion of voices boomed from the tower above carrying down to the grounds below.

Alexander let out a stifled laugh, lowering himself to avoid any potential students looking out.

Luka discovered that he liked walking in the snow.
In London, snow had always been a thing to fear. But here he had a thick cloak and thinker boots and he could get hot chocolate whenever he felt cold.
So he found he enough the quite crunch under his feet and the way that icicles formed on the trees...

Oh look. What is that?
It seemed that someone had built a kind of den from the snow. Luka moved closer, curious. At that moment, Sowerby stood up from behind his wall and sent a charmed snow-ball up at the Ravenclaw tower.
My tower, thought Luka, in a kind of scornful amusement. He was not angry; Luka did not have much House Pride. But this was too good a chance too miss... Sowerby, on his own, no teachers around...
Something flickered in the back of his mind. Was it fair to attack Sowerby? He had said nothing when Luka had been all punched up...
Well, so what? So what? Probably he had his own selfish reasons! He shook his head angrily. I refuse to become soft.

"How childish," he commented, folding his arms and tilted his head on one side. "Does little Sowerby have something against the Ravenclaws...?" Luka's eyes narrowed, green as poision. "Or is he upset because dear Mummy and Daddy Sowerby don't want him home for Christmas?"

Adelaine had seated herself in a chair precisely three inches away from an open window, so she could use the light of the sun to see, in the Ravenclaw common room. She had pulled out all her homework and nothing could be heard in the quiet room but the scratching of quills on parchment paper. It was, for some reason, a sound that had always comforted her.

"Adele, how do you spell that Scottish broom game?" asked a rather obnoxious fourth year.

"C-R-E-A-O-T-H-C-E-A-N-N," she responded irritably. "If you'd ever paid attention, you'd know."

The boy snorted and continued writing. For the life of her, she couldn't figure out why he'd be writing about the game anyway. Perhaps an extra credit assignment from a professor. Or maybe he was on the Quidditch team? Maybe Quidditch players had to learn about the old games.

Adele was about to say something else to the boy, when something cold and wet slapped against her face. She swiftly turned to the window and saw that a large snowball had been splattered against it. Everyone in the common room was outraged, rushing to the window to see who'd thrown it. Adelaine peered out and saw the culprit hiding (or trying to hide) behind a wall of snow: Alexander Sowerby. Really, that boy was falling lower and lower on her list.

"Sowerby!" she shouted angrily, shoving the window open completely. She turned to the crowd of students standing by her, and made sure she spoke loud enough for Alexander to hear. "Do you suppose tossing flaming balls of parchment is beneath a Ravenclaw?"

"Sowerby!" a blonde Ravenclaw second year girl yelled angrily down from the tower. Alexander's eyes were full of malice and his face changed into a smile of delight. "Do you suppose tossing flaming balls of parchment is beneath a Ravenclaw?"

Alexander laughed at this, she was just like her dear old cousin. Vindictive, arrogant and equally uptight. He didn't doubt that she could be manipulative if she wanted to.

"Why don't you come down here," Alexander roared up at the tower with laughter and glee in his voice.

At that moment he heard the crunching of the snow as he bewitched another snowball to fly at the Tower. "How childish," the voice spoke, it was a familiar unwelcome voice that obviously belonged to Luka Chancery. The boy folded his arms and tilted his head to one side but Alexander paid him no attention. "Does little Sowerby have something against the Ravenclaws...?" Luka asked "Or is he upset because dear Mummy and Daddy Sowerby don't want him home for Christmas?".

Alexander of course had been expecting this, he had hoped though that Luka would have not brought it up since Alexander had not said anything about him being beaten to a pulp, by his older friends at that. Biting his lip, he bewitched another snow ball to fly up at the tower. This time he looked at Luka Chancery. His face was unreadable, expressionless and vague. Chancery had hit a mark but he wasn't about to show it.

Alexander gazed at the boy, analysing and calculating him without saying a word. He still held his wand in his hand and he was ready to cast the Shield Charm if Luka or that Ravenclaw attacked him.

Elisabet was sitting quite comfortably in the Ravenclaw Common Room studying for final exams when she heard yelling coming the other side of the common room. She was so very intent on her studying that it took a second to realize what had just happened and where the noise had come from.

"Sowerby! Do you suppose tossing flaming balls of parchment is beneath a Ravenclaw?"
She say a familar 2nd year  shouting out of a window.
Alex? What is he doing now? He seems pretty nice from the few times I have encountered him, despite or somewhat turbulent meeting when he knocked me over in the snow.

Elisabet got up and ran to the window see what the rukus was, only to see it really was Alex, How odd, and Luka too. Are they working together?? Elisa bet was confused, it really didn't seem like the two of them got along at all.

Well, studying was getting boring, it would be a lot of fun to have a snowball fight on the grounds.

Need any help?? Elisabet asked her fellow Ravenclaw

Lisette was taking a leisurely stroll through Hogwarts. The bracing wind didn't faze her, no, not at all. She was filled with a strange kind of joy - soon she would be going back home, to Meri, to Kin, to the manor where...where what? She might be lonely...but she could invite her friends over! The thought filled her with endless happiness. Lisette made up her mind. She would find Adelaine and Meghan, and would immediately invite them over. Yes, that was exactly what she would do. She skipped happily, when suddenly...
A bunch of distressed yelling was coming from the Ravenclaw tower. This wouldn't really bother her, but she heard Adelaine's voice amidst it all and gasped. She had to go and help! A closer inspection revealed that Alexander Sowerby was throwing snowballs at the infuriated bookworms. Hmm...friendship or house loyalty? Barely a second had passed, and already Lisette was rushing over to tell the boy off. She didn't care if he threw snowballs at her. She was mad and she needed to show it.
"Alexander, what are you doing? Do you think hurting people just because they're from other houses is fun?"

"Alexander, what are you doing? Do you think hurting people just because they're from other houses is fun?"

Alexander looked up, half amused half irritated as the girl seemed to take the throwing of snow balls as a sign of some great show of anger or attempt to create a war between Slytherin and Ravenclaw. He cocked his eye brow, his face expressionless, his cheeks with a pink tinge as the cold began to get at them not bothering to look at Luka all the while.

"Just letting some steam off before the holidays, Lisette." he said his voice pleasant and cool. He however let go of the snow ball he had been forming in his hads, brushing his gloved hands as he did so. "I apologize, didn't realise that everyone was on such tenterhooks. If I had known that throwing a few snow balls as a laugh to start a snow ball fight would be deemed as a crime punishable by death," he said before continuing "well, I doubt I would have done it."

He wasn't certain as to why she was so uptight. It had only been a bit of snow, surely people could take a bit of a breather and relax a bit. Tomorrow was the last day of term and the majority of assignments were due after the holidays anyway.

Adelaine grinned at the reactions she received from her fellow housemates; clearly, they didn't think throwing flaming paper was beneath them. She turned to a first year girl she'd never noticed before and smiled, sizing her up.

"You can gladly help," she shouted above the commotion. "But I have a better idea."

She pulled the girl and a few other students toward the corner of the room, out of the way of the window. As delightful as it would be, Adele had a hunch that throwing flaming balls of parchment at people wasn't quite allowed at Hogwarts.

"Rather than throwing flames, how about getting him from behind?" she announced as a large crowd was now forming around her. "I spotted a few other Ravenclaws down there, and they saw what happened. Perhaps if they formed the snowballs, we could bewitch them to fly at Sowerby. He'd never see them coming!"

With that said, she ran back over and leaned out the window. She chuckled at Lisette's reaction to the whole thing, and listened as Alexander over-exaggerated the situation. A wide grin spread across her face when she noticed the snowball he'd dropped beside him. While he talked, Adele pulled out her wand, whispered "Wingardium Leviosa" and watched as the snowball floated up till it was directly above the boy's head.

"Alexander, you surely didn't expect to throw a snowball inside of a window without getting something in return," she shouted, beaming down at him.

With a quick flick of her wand, the snowball dropped.

"Alexander, you surely didn't expect to throw a snowball inside of a window without getting something in return,"

He was surprised that the girl was smiling cheerfully at him. His eyes narrowed but before he could cast a shield charm he felt something soft splatter on top of his brilliantly blonde hair and trickle down the back of his head.

Looking surprised, he suddenly let out a genuine laugh. It had been a while since he had laughed so genuinely.

"Alright Adelaine, that was a good one." the laughter still present in his voice he shouted up at the girl. Odd this was, he was sure she hated him but he didn't have any feelings of ill will than again he didn't even have bad feelings toward Luka Chancery who would slit his throat if he could.

"We should do this properly. Get down here with some of your friends and we can have a proper snowball fight."

The girl wasn't a Hufflepuff and he half expected her to agree but use cunning and deception to have some sort of an advantage over him. He however, was  not going to fight dirty just yet.

He looked at Luka Chancery for the first time and smiled, his voice was pleasant and had no malice behind it. "I reckon you might want to join the rest of your House in creating a devious plan to snow me in."

Alexander glanced at Lisette, he wasn't sure what she'd say but he was almost certain that she'd want to join her friends even if they weren't in the same house as her. He of course didn't mind being alone, against everyone although it would be nice to have someone on his side.

Betta chuckled as she heard Adeline's plan and watched her land a snow ball straight on Alex's head.

This is magnificent! Betta thought to herself We never had time to have a snowball fights at home. We always had our tutoring sessions and then helping mother and father in the hospital. Hardly any free time at all, and even if there was free time all Zella wanted it to was read.

Shall we go down and join them? she asked Adelaine, even though Betta herself had already turned to grab her cloak and head outside

Interesting.
Sowerby had given no reaction to the jibe.
He does not care at all, or cares too much even to fight me back? Probably which?
Luka opened his mouth to continue, to see if he could anger Sowerby into a reaction, but before he could do so a whole storm of things happened at once. Someone (Adele Beaumont, he saw after a moment) was protesting loudly against the snowballing of their Tower. Lisette Heartstone (oh no, not her again!) came rushing out of nowhere and instead of joining the Slytherin side, seemed to think that Sowerby was actually harming someone.
Luka gave a scornful little laugh.
"Chill out, Lisette Heartstone. As if anyone could be hurt by a snowball." Did she think she was a hero, rushing to the rescue? She couldn't even perform the simplest of spells!

And then Adele charmed a snowball to hit Sowerby on the head. Luka laughed and so, to his suprise, did Alexander. Then he spoke.
"I reckon you might want to join the rest of your House in creating a devious plan to snow me in."
What...?
Luka stared, unbelieving. Sowerby was inviting him to attack him, and sounding nice about it? Luka turned away, puzzled and annoyed. What was going on? Why was he so stupidly nice? It did not make sense, Luka could not understand it, he hated it when he did not understand...
Unless he is pretending to freak you out.
Luka blinked. Yes. Yes, that must be it. Sowerby was pretending to be nice in order to confuse him, to get him off his guard...
And it had very nearly worked.
A slow, malicious grin spread over his face.
"If you insist.."
Luka scooped up a handful of snow, quickly charmed it with the same levitation spell and sent it whizzing towards Sowerby's face. Well, why not?

"If you insist.." Luka said as he picked up a handful of snow, charmed it and sent it at Alexander.

"Protego" he murmured and flicked his wand, casting the shield charm.

"Now, now, you ought to wait for the rest of your house to get down here. It wouldn't be much of a fight if you snowed me in before the House of beautiful Ravenclaw did not get a chance to retaliate" Alexander said smiling, the laughter still etched into his face.

Glancing at Lisette, the smile still on his face he said jovially "Come on Lisette. You can throw some snow as well."

Lisette blushed crimson as she realised that her reaction had been much too exaggerated indeed (though she did not appreciate annoying Luka telling her to chill out - whatever that was) and decided that a snowball fight really wasn't that bad an idea. What she didn't like was that everyone was now laughing at her. She sighed. Maybe they were right. She probably just needed to loosen up.

Though she suddenly felt very uncomfortable in this situation. Rather than being in her usual group of good friends, she was with Alexander(a mysterious entity she didn't quite understand), Luka (no words required), one little first-year she didn't know yet and Adelaine. Lisette felt outnumbered, weak and helpless. She was out of her element and nothing could protect her now.

With a quick charm she sent one last snowball at Luka's annoying head. She could have a bit of fun after all. But now she felt as if she just needed to lie in her dorm and sleep.

"I hardly expect that Chancery will be on either side," Adele shouted down to Alexander.

Luka seemed to have no Ravenclaw pride whatsoever, but he certainly wouldn't side with Sowerby. The two first years infamously hated one another.

"I think I'll go down and join them," she turned to her housemates, throwing on her cloak. "Since Sowerby clearly can't handle the way he generated the fight."

A few people snickered and laughed, and Adelaine pushed her way through the crowded common room. She ran down the many steps of the tower, avoiding a few ghosts and questions along the way. Was it really that odd for a girl to speed through a few hallways to reach her destination?

At last, she reached the grounds, nearly slipping on a sheet of ice that had formed over a puddle. Before rounding the corner, she stopped and gathered a few snowballs. She wasn't going to go into the danger zone unarmed. With the snowballs in her arms, she turned the corner and sent one each at Sowerby, Lisette, and Chancery.

"Have you sorted out sides yet?" she exclaimed with a grin.

"I hardly expect that Chancery will be on either side," the blonde Ravenclaw shouted down from her tower.

Alexander shrugged, true enough although he was sure that whatever side Chancery was on, it wouldn't be his. He was sure he could unearth Merlin's underpants before that happened.

Still smiling he shuffled his feet slightly in the snow, which caused him to sink slightly as he said. "I don't mind being a slight underdog, although I'd like someone to be on my side."

"Have you sorted out sides yet?" said a cool voice, but before Alexander could answer he saw a flurry of snowballs fly in different directions. Lisette and Adelaine had sent one each at Luka, one was coming straight for him, another at Lisette. Alexander had enough time to throw a snowball right at Adelaine's midriff before he was hit in the chest by the charmed snowball.

Elisabet finally made to the exit, way behind the other Ravenclaw, she had accidentally ended up on a moving staircase and had gotten lost.
You would think getting to the grounds would be pretty simple!

She burst out into the yard just in time to see Alex and Luka get hit with a few smowballs, laughing gleefully she scooped up a ball, closed her eyes and threw it as hard as she could into the small group of students not caring who she hit.

Alexander didn't see whether his snowball had made the mark because just as he threw it another snow ball zoomed in and splattered in his face. Wiping the snow out of his eyes, he saw it had been thrown by Elisabet a Ravenclaw he had befriended. He laughed as he cast a dozen snowballs to zoom out and fly in different directions targeting all of his school fellows in the grounds.

Before they could grasp what was about to happen, and when they weren't looking. Alexander took a few well chosen steps and jumped down the small hill. Sliding half way to the bottom, getting up he hid behind a thick tree and knowing full well that his sudden disappearance would cause everyone a bit of a shock.

He suppressed his laughter by putting his hand to his mouth. He wondered how long it would take them to find him.
