The Great Hall was buzzing with conversation when Meghan strode in. She sat in her usual seat at the Gryffindor and fought to keep her bleary eyes open. She had spent all last night working on a Charms essay for Professor Penvellyn. It had to be a crime to make any one girl write a three foot essay. For that reason Meghan lay her head in her hands and listened idly to the conversation around her. They needed something more exciting to do.

"Meghan, did you answer the questions for potions?" A fellow Gryffindor first year asked.

"By golly, oh jolly! I did indeed. May I ask which answers you need? " Meghan smiled, this could be fun, "Help me please! At Hogsmeade someone stung me with a candy bee! "

It was genius, rhyming was an impeccable way of passing time. Also Meghan got to measure everyone's temper at the same time. Who would be first to crack? It could not end here, no Meghan would rhyme all day!

With a flourish Lisette finished off her essay, before cradling her face in her hands. That took a while! Her hand was throbbing with pain now - trying to finish most of her essay at breakfast was not a very good idea at all. At least she was done. She shoveled some food into her mouth, feeling heavy, sleepy and tired. Lisette sighed. Maybe she should start up a conversation. Or perhaps...She started to grin wickedly. If she started up some drama it might make her feel better. Her eyes scanned the Great Hall, finally landing on the Gryffindor table, where Meghan was nattering away at a student that was staring at her as if she was crazy. Not caring about what everyone else thought about a Slytherin talking to a Gryffindor, she darted right across the hall.

"Hello, Meghan!" She greeted. "How are you?"

On one hand Meghan wanted to laugh her head off, on the other wanted to smack some sense into Lisette. Why on Choclatish had Lisette traveled to the Gryffindor table. She had broke the unspoken law of the Great Hall. Not that seeing the astonished looks on everyone wasn't pleasing, but Meghan was unsure how this change would affect the status quo.

"Hello Lisette, I did not expect to see you here. (But I'm glad to have you near) Don't fret, our table presents no threat. Some of them are in my debt."

Meghan's dimple shown as she smiled brightly at the blond girl.

Lisette rolled her eyes as everyone on the Gryffindor table stared at her openmouthed. She didn't really mind. Going to other houses to chat with friends there wasn't really strange to her - in fact, she suspected she spent more time with other houses than with her own. It wasn't her fault! There was a Slytherin shortage or something - since the house numbers were controlled by the types of students that went to Hogwarts and apparently there weren't that many Slytherin-esque people around in England. She sighed, then continued to listen to Meghan. So she was speaking in rhyme? Well, two could play at that game. It would be even better if the other people thought they had planned it. She mentally giggled manically.

"Hello Meghan, nice to see you. I am feeling rather blue, but it has nothing to do with you. Gryffindors are a brave bunch, I'd like to talk to you while the others munch. It would be nice to have a chat, maybe about the Sorting Hat. There's not enough Slytherins, what a shame. Though of course it is not you that I blame."
Lisette grinned widely. This was so much fun! She could keep it up all day (her rhymes were rather good, she thought).

With a small stack of toast in hand, Adelaine made her way over to the Gryffindor table. She saw the whole fiasco; people stared at Meghan as though she were crazy (which really happened quite often), and others looked a bit defensive as Lisette took a seat next to her. Adele sneaked quietly up behind the two and listened to their rather odd rhymes for a moment.

"Hello you two, up to anything new? I'm feeling fine, though I'd like to go back in time," she stated cheerfully, plopping down next to Lisette.

How magnificent! Both Lisette and Adelaine caught on and they're actually going along with it! My oh my this will be fun! Meghan smirked at her clueless housemates. Had they really not caught on? Maybe the other houses were right in thinking Gryffindors were slow! No, that couldn't be some of them were intelligent! Like herself, obviously! Just jesting!

"Don't be blue, and hello to you too! Nothing new, except wanting there to be dew. I need to use to loo! My oh my I feel so ashamed I seem to have forgotten my Potions professor's name! Do you know, it might have been Joe."

Meghan was now fully awake. This was a very stimulating, humorous conversation! It was somewhat like an inside joke.

Immediately Adelaine was joining in on their rhyming spree. Considering the closeness of these three girls, it felt rather like some kind of joke that nobody else knew (which was probably true, from the way the bemused Gryffindors stared at them). They were quite a diverse group, but somehow they just seemed to all fit together like pieces of a puzzle. Grinning, she shook her head, exiting her daydreams and continuing to listen to Adele's clever rhymes.

Quickly, Lisette was creating some too.
"Hurrah, my good friend Adele has joined in on my rhymes too! Now our inter-house unity has been sprinkled with some blue! Joe is a Hufflepuff in my year, now is everything crystal clear? Why would you like to go back in time? Our present time suits me just fine!" She chirped brightly.

"Never you mind about the time, perhaps we should befriend a mime," Adele piped up, well aware that her statement made no sense.

Taking a huge bite of an overly buttered piece of toast, she let her mind wander back to one of the last conversations she and Lisette had. In fact, Adelaine found herself thinking about their Room of Requirement plan quite a bit. Now that Amelia had backed out, they were in desperate need of another rather mischievous first year. Perhaps Meghan was the one they were looking for?

"Lisette, don't fret, but we can't forget our search for the Room of Requirement," she said, lowering her voice so that only her friends could hear.

The Room of Requirement? And her Meghan thought Adelaine was the good one of the group! It was too good to be true. Meghan had heard it all before, but to think it actually existed! She was going to tag along even if it was unbeknownst to the others.  Hopefully they would just allow her to come without sneaking though.

"That sounds to good to be true, mind if I join you? As you know I love adventure so. If only it held unicorns then I would have no scorn.  Do you know how to get there? Or is it simply trying to prepare?" Meghan whispered in enthusiasm.

If they truly did know the way they would have to be sure not to get caught this time. If so Meghan feared that detention would be the least of their worries. Trying the headmaster's patience was not very wise.

Lisette giggled out loud at Adele's declaration, but then became serious as she mentioned their previously-planned hunt for the Room of Requirement. Meghan seemed all too eager to join, which was a good thing - she was quite adventurous and of course she had that Gryffindor bravery that would surely aid them greatly. She responded in her own rhyme-filled way, and Lisette suddenly felt a sense of security - this day was going great! Not only were they doing some serious plotting, but they were having fun rhyming as well!

Lisette felt the need to share her thoughts about the whole matter.
"I think it's great, it must be fate! I only have one question and that, is that we seem to have already asked Cat. Did he reply? I don't mean to pry! I'd love for Meghan to come - then we can get it done!" She lowered her voice for the next part. "Meghan, are you up for it? Because we are doing quite a bit. We're using Dungbombs, I'm pretty sure, and doing quite a bit more. It will be worth it, don't get me wrong. The result will make you want to burst into song!"

Cat. Another reference to the mysterious boy she had yet to meet. Hopefully he was no where near as bad as Luka. Having two Lukas would be like having two crumpled-horned snorkacks biting your ankles! Irritating, itchy, smelly, and perhaps fatal to Meghan and the beast. The girls antics were so amusing Meghan struggled to keep a straight face.

"I cannot wait! This is going to be great. I do not know Cat, but we can change that. Do we need anything? I cannot wait to sing! Oh what glee this shall bring me! I am afraid we shall  we caught! Detention was not as good as I had thought."

The drab morning had made an absolute turn in which Meghan was eager to continue. Hogwarts, a place where dreams come true. Meghan's definitely were. When in the muggle world she found herself put out because of her odd behavior. Here it was like one big giant family. Everyone accepted each others flaws.

Adelaine smiled and grabbed a piece of bacon from an unsuspecting boy. The little first year glared at her, but soon moved to the other end of the table in intimidation when she scowled at him.

Meghan seemed keen on joining them in their search, and Adele couldn't be more excited. The way she looked at it, the more the merrier. She just wasn't sure if Meghan could keep the adventure a secret..

"We'd love for you to come along, and we will sing a song!" she chanted, grinning. "Just don't tell a soul, because no one can know."

Lisette frowned as the two girls apparently made no notice of her inquiry about Cat. Meghan claimed she had never met Cat before (then going on to wax poetic about how excited she was - but making a very interesting point: what if they were caught?) and Adele completely ignored it. Well, she didn't really mind...she tried to forget about it and continued going on with what they were saying. Talking in rhyme could be hard, as you might want to say what was on your mind but then would realize you couldn't find something to rhyme with it.

After stealing a little boy's piece of bacon, Adele brought up something that had not been noticed before: what if Meghan told? Lisette glanced at Meghan. Then again. Then again. She didn't know her very well at all, she realised. Yes, there were times when the three were together and they had a whole bunch of fun adventures but really, there were few. But Meghan could keep a secret....right?

She swallowed. The whole thing had started to become rather serious. "Now that it's settled, let us start to plan!  If we get caught, will they impose a ban? I hope not, it's fun to explore! We can adventure 'till we are sore. Adele is right; don't tell anyone. If you do, it will ruin the fun!"

Meghan was slightly offended by the girls accusations that Meghan might spill the beans. Though Meghan obviously loved to talk, she could keep her mouth shut when needed. The bacon Adelaine had stolen sent Meghan's tummy rumbling reminding her that she had not yet eaten. She nicked a piece of sausage of a serving platter and nibbled on it.

"Do you not trust me? If not then forget me coming and leave it be. I am no so stupid as to tell the whole school, do you take me for a fool? My lips are sealed, though how would you plan to stay concealed?"

Perhaps talking about such serious matters in the Great Hall was not wise, but where else could they meet? They needed to elaborate alone without the confusing rhymes. Luckily the odd looks had pratically ceased, but now people were looking on at the trio in annoyance. Well phooey for them!

Adelaine reached across the table and took a swig of someone's pumpkin juice. Really, what was going on with her today?

"So, it's settled then? I say we do it at ten," she quickly retorted.

If they were going to get anywhere with this, they had to stop rhyming. They also needed to be alone. It didn't take much energy for Adele to stand up and shoo the other first years away from them. She loved that her un-Ravenclaw-like reputation made her so intimidating to younger students.

"Now, enough rhyming," she said quietly as she sat back down. "Ten in the morning would be the ideal time to do it. I bought some dungbombs when we were in Hogsmeade. I don't know if Cat is joining us."

Alexander watched with curiosity as Meghan, Adelaine and Lisette talked in hushed whispers. While he could not be certain to their specific plans, he knew that whatever they were about to undertake would be something spectacular they wouldn't wish to advertise. He was reluctant to talk to this trio, he had felt that the Hogsmeade trip had been eye opening and while Alexander had always understood that the majority of people would end up trying to use him to get ahead, he had been of the hope that at least he was the manipulator.

One way or another the hushed voices and secretive behaviour only made him wish to know more! He knew that whatever happened he'd have to ensure that he could play it coy and safe.

Lisette felt rather guilty as Meghan crossly told them firmly that if they were not going to believe her, then she would not take part in this whole operation. Looking back, it had been rather harsh to suddenly gang up on Meghan just because she was a little chatty. That definitely did not mean she couldn't keep a secret.

Adelaine quickly ended the rhyming thing, as it would have been difficult to continue planning such matters under the burden of having to make sure there were other words that sounded like what you meant to say. She continued to quickly draw out a mental map of what they should do and how.

In hushed whispers, Lisette continued:"What day, tomorrow? If it's on a Hogsmeade weekend, most students will be out and there'll be less chance of being seen. And shall we go over the plan again? Someone might be unsure of the details and we have to get this right." She dashed over to the Slytherin table, took out some parchment, quills and ink from the bag she'd been using the study earlier in the morning, returned and promptly drew out an organised list. Yes, she was a perfectionist - but it helped.

Adelaine watched, slightly in awe, as Lisette promptly took parchment, quills, and ink. She wasn't sure it was a good idea to have such a plan in writing, but she carried on anyhow.

"I've just remembered, the boy said it was on the 7th floor," she leaned in further,"not the third. So, here's the plan: we'll meet on the third floor, then make our way to the 7th. Meghan, you'll throw the bomb in the Charms classroom; we'll run, having the need to hide, thinking about our need to hide. When we arrive on the 7th floor, we'll run the halls till the room appears."

She stared at the parchment, making sure Lisette was jotting everything down correctly. She was quite anxious to get the job done and over with, so that they'd know where the room was. It would be splendid having a secret place to go whenever you needed to get away!

"It'll have to be during a class, or at least when the professor is in the room," she added. "Perhaps tomorrow morning?"

Adele suddenly had a strange feeling they were being watched; casually, she glanced up and across the room, searching for the pair of eyes she knew were staring straight at their group. Surprisingly, she landed on Alexander Sowerby; she had half a mind to march across the hall and tell him off. The boy was probably reading their lips!

"Meghan, your taste in boys is quite deplorable," she announced and pointed to Sowerby, not bothering to be discreet about it.

Perhaps, I should offer myself as a look out and give them a chance to have a better distraction than a few stink bombs in case a teacher or the caretaker came stumbling about.

It was just as that thought reached his mind that Alexander noticed Adelaine speaking to Meghan while looking right at him.

"Meghan, your taste in boys is quite deplorable,"

He had been a good lip reader but after seeing what she said, he wished he hadn't been. Alexander felt the expression in his face wane into a frown. He looked down, and feeling a hot heavy hand in his stomach he picked up his bag and stood up. Not finishing the dinner he had in front of him he sighed deeply, not saying anything to the Slytherin fourth years that were sitting around him. Slowly he shuffled out of the hall feeling that the world was truly cruel and heartless.

Meghan blushed a deep scarlet and about ripped out her hair. It was so unlike Adelaine to do such a thing she knew how Meghan felt and practically shouted it aloud. Meghan lie her head on the table in shame and embarrassment. Unsure if it was just her imagination but it felt as if everyone was staring at her.

"Adele, did you have to tell the school? Oh no what will Alexander think? I feel like a miserable fool. My chances with him just went down the kitchen sink."

Meghan was furious at Adelaine and felt like storming out but she kept her head down and prayed that the worst was over.
