[Luka Chancery]

Full Character Name: Luka Chancery

Residence: London. A ramshackle building, one of the many owned by the Thief Lord and known to its residents as "the Skelter".
Blood: muggleborn
Social Class/father’s occupation: Luka is an apprentice of the Thief Lord, London's king of thieves. He is one of the Lord's favorites because of his skill and intelligence.

The Personality

Emotional Disposition: Watchful
Core Value: Aloof
Positive Characteristics: Quickness of mind, sharpness of memory. Protection of those he loves, thirst for self-improvment, perfect self-controle. A love for the green and growing things that he sees and a weakness and keeps well hidden.
Negative Characteristics: Longing for power at almost any cost, manipulative, mostly thinks of himself first, is friendly only when it suits him - when he thinks he can get something from the other person.
Conflict and hardship: Luka is a foundling - he never knew his parents. The person who found him happened to be the Thief Lord of London, who has naturally taught Luka his profession. There is plenty of conflict and hardship that comes with being a thief: always watching for the Law, always wondering who to trust, almost being caught and sometimes the takings are bad and people go hungry and cold. But there is glory and freedom too, and Luka loves his life. For a good thief, the glory well out-weighs the hardship.
Motivation, Passion and Drive: Luka has two motivations for all he does: the first is longing for power and the second is love of a little girl named Hero.
Motto or catchphrase: The steps to power are steps on sand.
Overall personality: There are boys with big muscles, strong legs. There are boys with fast fists and fouler mouths. They are powerful because others fear the pain they can cause.
This is not Luka. Though Luka longs for power, he knows he cannot get it this way. Perhaps he does not even wish for this kind of power, to rule with fists and a dirty face. He knows that there is something stronger than physical strength. He feels that if one boy looses his temper, shouts and raves while the other keeps himself cold and calm, it is the calm one who has one the battle.
Luka knows that it is the sharpness of his mind that will make him great. He can twist people's words and give them different meanings, plant the seed of fear in an enemy. He assesses every situation, shuffles and deals the outcomes in his mind, choses the one he wants and makes it happen. Sometimes Luka works so carefully, so quietly that sometimes you hardly even know that he has entered into your head... and sometimes he meets you in a head on confrontation and he knows that he will win.  
There is only single one person in Luka's life who he cares for, not because of what she can give him but because he loves her as though she were his little sister.
Her name is Hero.
Diary Entry:
Luka does not keep a diary; it would be far too dangerous. But if he did, it would probably look like this.

Wake up to the sound of the blackbirds on the roof and Cat Charlie snoring. Open the trapdoor, climb onto the roof to check the weather. Brightness over in the east where the sun is rising, but clouds swarm towards it like crows on a bone. Smells like rain.
Back inside, shut up Cat Charlie by pushing him out of bed. That wakes the others and Skeeter makes tea and bags the only cup with a handle. I get the jam jar to drink from, and Cat Charlie has the tea pot with the broken spout.
The warning bell jingles. Someone is coming and the others jump but I know that its only Hero. Her sunny face comes through the window and she says she has the Thief Lord's message for today.
We listen.
We know our targets, know our roles and I must report to him at sundown with our takings.
So the day begins.  

The Appearance

First Impression: A boy with his head in a cloud of dreams.
On Second thought..: The distant look in his eyes disguises the fact that he is always watching, always remembering.
Overall Appearance: Luka's hair is bright as fire. Not tabby-cat ginger, but the real blazing scarlet that belongs to the people of Ireland. It is thick, messy, seems to twist and sway even when there is no wind.
With such lively hair you might expect a vivid face; you would be wrong. Luka's skin is like carved ivory, his expression always cold. His green eyes are as hard and distant as emeralds.
He is thin and tall, like a spindly young tree. Very tall for his age: until Luka got his letter, he was under the impression that he was thirteen years old. His hands are long and slender, perfect for sliding into the pockets of strangers.
Luka's clothes vary, depending on where he needs to blend in. Most of them were stolen from washing-lines.

The Thief Lord: the man who rules Luka's life
Hero: a little girl with heaven-bright eyes. She is the Thief Lord's favorite, his messenger, his pet. She is years younger than Luka, and he was given the task of teaching her the ways of the thief. He grew to adore her as though she were his little sister. Luka would do anything on earth for Hero.
Cat Charlie: a boy in Luka's band
Will Skeeter: another boy (and there's lots more but I wont name them all)
Reputation: One of the Thief Lord's best thieves. This is proved by the way Luka is trusted to take part in the biggest jobs, and trusted with the care and training of Hero.
Secrets: A thief knows far too many secrets to even begin writing them here...

Pet: A black cat named Shadow. Luka saved Shadow from three boys who wished to drown her, and she has repaid the debt with her affection.

Specific Questions for Muggleborns:

How did your parents react when you received a letter from Hogwarts? Only hours after receiving the letter, Hero came from the Thief Lord with a message: Luka must go to him, and bring the letter from the down. Luka did not know what to expect... himself he thought the letter must be some kind of hoax. But the Thief Lord calmly explained that his own sister was a witch, and had received such a letter on her eleventh birthday.
"You have to go," the Thief Lord told him. "There's no saying no to these people."
What explanation is given to your family for your long absences while you are at Hogwarts? The rest of the gangs are told that Luka is going to do the Thief Lord's work in another city. But little Hero was told the truth.
What future did your character abandon in favor of coming to Hogwarts? The Thief Lord has said he sees no reason why Luka cannot still work for him... a wizard is a useful thing to have on your side, he said.
How did your character find out they were magical, how long have they known and how did they react when they got their Hogwarts letter? Luka only knew because of the letter. After reading it, his mind raced in two directions. One side thought it was some kind of elaborate joke... but the other was remembering. Remembering the time he had been caught in that street-fight and a knife had gone into his side... yet when he woke up in the Shack, there was no sign of any wound. Remembering also the first time he had taken Hero out to steal and someone had seen her. They had run, and somehow they had arrived on the other side of London in only twenty paces.

Student Skills:

School Ethic: Luka has never been to school, but the Thief Lord thinks it essential that his thieves can read and write. The better ones, anyway. And of course they must know how to handle money, and know the worth of any kind of treasure.
Teacher Relation: It depends on the Professor. At first Luka will be very careful with all of them... he does not know what kind of power these Professors have.
Work Ethic and Diligence: Luka has a thirst for power, and of course knowledge is power. Therefore he works hard and learns all that he can.
Subjects: Because of his secret love of nature, he will most enjoy Herbology but will do his best to hide it. And the subject he would like least would be Flying: Luka hates to fail in front of people and flying on a broom could bring all sorts of humiliation...  
Where don't you want to be: Luka would hate Hufflepuff, I'm sure.
